Sticky yellow traps- I use yellow strips of card or even better plastic sheet. Cover in axle grease. Voila.
You can buy nematodes that prey on sciarids. Yes ladybugs are always welcome in the grow room .A cheap effective deterrent is to cover the top of the soil with sand, perlite or similar. This makes it difficult for the gnats to lay their eggs in the moist soil. TBH sciarids are only a serious menace with weak plants, more of an annoyance normally. Mites, now they're a serious problem indoors.
