growing in a war zone

I have recently moved to Southern Arizona from San Diego and I thought I had bug problems,Not like here the grass hoppers are as big as your hand.What can I do to protect the garden. I have the earb all inter twined through my large tomato plants. Yea I know i'm inviting trouble w / the tomatoes but I really need the cover and the tomatoes are the best around. Thx

The grasshoppers are like the deer.....they're only a problem when the plants are in veg.

We've seen them so big...that you could of collected their droppings....they we're sooo big!

I use lots of bone meal sprinkled all around the base of the plant....and then, I boil up a whole bunch of rhubarbe leaves on the BBQ....boil it for 1 hour, then let sit overnight.....strain and add 1 tsp. of yellow sunlight dish soap for every 4 litres of liquid.

Spray liberally (Not in full sun)....the plant and all vegetation near the plants. This formula is also used on my potatoe plants ....

You can try using cillantro (sp?)....boil for 5 minutes...let steep and cool....then dilute and spray!
