CO2 hash?

Has anyone made hash with carbon dioxide? I've been hearing a lot about it from dispensaries and whatnot, but I've never seen it done or smoked it.

What are its advantages? is it really as good as it's made out to be? how does it work? HUNGRY FOR INFORMATION I AM

co2 is a pretty common solvent for extracting essential oils from plants. but you need specialized equipment. an accident at the kind of pressure could be fatal, or at least very bad. mostly due to frostbite and explosions. probably not a diy project.

I've tried (as a matter of fact I'm trying some right this minute) this CO2 'wax' you ask about.

It's fair to middlin'...

I much prefer the BHO obtained with a butane extraction, it seems to me that a 'dryer' product can be obtained simply by exposing the BHO to low heat and simple aeration (and possibly accomplishing the mythical 'decarboxlization') which so far has not been accomplished with both CO2 and Iso washes when exposed to the same.

CO2 (aka 'Critical' or 'Supercritical') extractions are lab tested at ~75% THC content overall with butane extractions hitting 85% on the bottom and 98% on the top.

I'm sure it means something, let me share my actual experience, the CO2 extractions made with good weed are pretty good. Butane extractions made with the shit clippings and water leaves we got for free were consistently fuckin' GREAT!

So, critical extractions are less potent but available at the dispensary which is good because it isn't a DIY project. Butane extractions are incredibly pure and potent and incredibly easy for even the lamest sketcher to pull off, but you might blow your damned house up. I guess it all has it's pros and cons.

I'd suggest the trims/bud be completely dry and chopped up, and with the finest mesh it's nearly airfloat so don't shake the bag like a spastic.

Supercritical fluid extraction.

More Geek read.

I've been doing oil extractions for a long time.

First iso, then butane.

check my "old" posts.

Oh I am aware, however the process described in my links has a total recovery of solvent where as our 'old' methods result in total solvent loss which is both costly and bad for the planet, if you care...

On the other hand, as with most of the old home brewed tech, the old ways do produce a much better product.

the planet will be fine if you use butane.

So if its more expensive and complicated, and produces lower quality product than butane, why does anyone use CO2 at all?

With a recovery rate of 100% of the solvent, it can be reused, I believe indefinitely.
