I'm almost ready to clone and from what i have read all you do is take a cutting and put it in water. is this right? do you just drop the whole cutting into water or just the stem where you cut it? can anyone give me some simple beginner instructions for cloning? thanks for your help guys.

Cut the top at a 45 degree angle with a razor, get you some rooting hormone, dip the stem in the hormone, then put it in a pot (terra cota works best) with GOOD soil (store bought), water it, put some saran wrap over the pot secure it with a rubberband and jab a few holes in it. Then put the pot as close to the light as possible, inch or two if using good flourescents farther away with powerful lights, keep it damp and in about a week or 2 you'll notice that it will start taking..it'll get bigger.Simple enough. People here make it sound like it's brain surgery..it's not, take your time and you WILL have good results with this method.

well i dont know about anyone else but i tried the water method and after 8 hrs in water the bottom of the stems had bent like an umbrella handle. had to throw them all. it might not be brain surgery but you do learn as you go and my success rate certainly improved with practice.

I have great success:
You need: -humidity dome/tray for best results. - clone gel. -Oasis cubes or peat discs or something to stick them into. 1) just cut from the BOTTOM 1/3rd of the plant and stick a few of these "cuttings" in a glass of water immediately. cut more than you want/need 2) have your oasis cubes already damp. and humidity tray/dome standing by...gel open and ready for dipping... 3) take each cutting one at a time: cut with a CLEAN razor at a 45 degree angle (cutting at a 45 degree angle increases the surface area that will grow roots in the future) and dip in clone gel..... 4) immediately take your clone and and stick into oasis cube gently. 5) do all the cuttings you have 6) slap that humidity dome on the tray and put under flourescent light for 18 hrs (6hrs dark) 7) each day, open the humidity lid to let in fresh air 8) after a week you will see usually 1 of the clones start to root before the rest 9) after another week, more will be rooting. 10)THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART: Now that they are ALL starting to root do this: ---Remove the humidity lid and keep an eye on the babies, after about an hour, they will all begin to WILT. DON'T freak out, just put the lid back on, and they will perk back up, whew...scarry but worth it. Do this each day until they stop wilting. Once they stop wilting, I keep the dome off, this forces those babies to grow up and mature faster. 11) If they can survive without the dome, they are ready to be re-planted into your soil, or hydro system, just be careful of HPS lights too soon or you can fry those babies. GOOD LUCK |
