My next crop are all going to be clones from swt4 + skunk No.1 and I will be experimenting a bit with my soil mix.
I was thinking of using a mix of: 20% dried chicken manure pellets/40% perlite/40%potting soil. Is this too much chicken shit to be adding? I would be potting up from 1L-2L-5L and i will be budding them the day I repot them into their 5L so that there will be plenty of growth room for the roots when the plants stretch. Does anyone know if this will be enough nutrient to take my plant through veg and flowering without any extra nutes? (I've also got earth juice nutes but I'd rather not have to go to the trouble of ferting every few days) Any help greatly appreciated BTW I'm growing indoors under 400w hps and will be flowering at about 10 inches.

Lots of helpful hints thanks Kosh!
I've managed to find a source of worm castings so I think I'll be using them instead as I can get them alot cheaper and I've read that they're the mutts nuts for your plants. Would 30% worm castings in my 5L pots be alright, or is this too much? I know worm castings have plenty of N for the growth but will they have enough P to get me through the budding process? Or do you think I'll have to add some flowering nutes later on? I think I'll take your advice and repot them 2-3 weeks into budding just to make sure they don't get rootbound or show deficiencies near harvest time. And I don't think I'll bother with any more additives for my soil mix, I'm just gonna keep it simple at first. Thanks again for the tips Free Tha Herb! |

I've done some research on worm castings and have come to the conclusion that they shouldn't burn my plants, so I'll be using a mix of:
60% perlite/vermiculite + 30% worm castings 10% chicken manure pellets or 40% worm castings Would you recommend mixing in some EarthJuice Bloom with the soil mix before repotting? Or will the worm and chicken shit be enough P for flowering?

Don't you think it'd be better to start a new thread seeing as that's on a different subject?
BTW I'm currently using the same medium as what you're talking about. I think you're on about the Organic Composted Bark you get in 20 litre bags. I've repotted recently using this and John Innes cutting compost (or summat) mixed together 50/50and I'm having no problems so far. It's got good airation so you shouldn't have to add that much perlite. Hope this helps you out. Peace

Yes I think I'll be trying out different ratios of perlite and potting mix. And also different amounts of worm castings. I'm just gonna use that mix ratio as a guideline for my experiments.
I'll let you all know my results and which works best. Laterz

Chill out guys, seriously, it's not Free For All in here!
I've used the exact same mix as that Gangabiss, 60/30/10. It's not a usual but a friend swears by it and so I tried it. Can't say I like it as I can't compost the root ball afterwards so easily, but that's a personal thing. Plants did great. I swear by 50 (any dark) soil, 20 perlite, 20 worm castings, 10 pertinent (veg or flower) guano fert mix. The ratio varies a little with a couple of keepers because they like extra well drained (or in one case not so well draining) soil. I've recently been experimenting with sand instead of perlite as perlite has a habit of 'floating' in any soil/soiless mix. Most shop brand soils are fine Phat, but I'm a Homebase man myself!! I'm sad, seriously, too much fucking DIY. SS
