any idiot troll can garner 'thank you's'. they don't even have to be consistently liked. fuck, just give your condolences in G&S enough times and watch the love come pouring in... It's a one way system...

with consequence comes repercussion, just like real life. this fairy tale bs of a system is so fucking retarded. im only being harsh because im a dick. make it a 'karma' like system, where each member has a number beside their name, + or -.

EG -100 = douchbag, + 100 = good poster. as voted upon BY THE COMMUNITY.

anyone can vote + or - once per day, per member. this way, no one can abuse the system and automatically give someone - 100000000...

other message boards use this method and it fucking works. AND, if implemented, make it so FFA get's counted too. that is so retarded how the posts there don't get recognized post count wise.

what i'm trying to say is people have the option to "applaud" (+1) or "smite" (-1) a persons post. In a (IMO) effectual way for the community to moderate themselves instead of rely on a select few to do the job for them. It's hard to ignore a number alongside their name.

I think this will make obsolete the ridiculous auto space between characters that are deemed too long........... and, get rid of auto caps lock ban, feature. or whatever. and make moderators jobs a hell of a lot easier.

I like the thanks feature. When it was first put into use everyone spammed the crap out of it, which is why it is only enabled in certain sections. A lot of times I'll see something that I agree with or like, and would otherwise not left a post saying "thanks" or "." or something. I believe that is the actual purpose of the "thanks" button.

If you don't like it, don't use it. Otherwise, shove it up your Alaskan pipeline.

I just figured the meaning was implied with the understanding.

I inferred that you correlated the thanks system with your system, by including it in your first post. I can see now that you were just using it to compare.

I don't understand how a system like you describe is going to benefit the forums. Once you're around here for long enough, you learn who makes quality posts and who is liked, who likes what drugs, who's a party animal and who's a quiet mouse. In other words you get to know people. What I'm trying to say is that we don't need some stupid counter system to determine who is +100 and who is -11, etc.

Because most existing members know what's what and who's who, I assume this would be, in theory, most beneficial to new members. However, a member's popularity doesn't directly affect their intelligence or quality of post, and isn't necessarily "fair" to said new member.

I think you should be able to recognize good and helpful posts when they are posted. Giving a value system is just going to cause pre-judgment of members by other members.

The post count system is a downfall in a similar way. While it usually doesn't reflect on the member's popularity, post counts are meaningless except in the isntance of an E-penis competition. Certain people think (on any forum), because they have X number of posts more than everyone else, they transcend the regular members.

As far as all the caps and spaces thing goes. I don't really have a position and think I that I was a less active mod when that decision was made.

I like the thanks system and agree with Osirus that giving a nod to someone is nice. It's a way to say something nice, if you don't know what to say. I can't say that saying thanks is bad. As to why FFA hasn't that option? Wasn't here for that talk either.

It's funny you mention 2006 because that was an inactive period for me here because of computer access at the time.

I understand where you are coming from with this + - system, but don't see how it differs from the thank yous beyond it's not in FFA. Which means if that is where you post al the time then you can't get official thanks. And I can see where the frustration spawns from in that case.

I give a lot of thanks to posts I like, it's why my given outs are so high, I want to spread the love, and I can guarantee you have many from me as well, because I do find many of your thank-able posts in thank-able forums worth a nod at least.

As to why I have thanks...I am not in control of that part. That is you guys hearing me in posts or enjoying them. And I do frequently post in thank-able forums like G&S as you have mentioned, which statistically means more chances for it....

Make a plea and get my attention with it but I certainly won't shoot down your suggestions either. However beyond my voice I have no Admin ability to do shit about anything
