subscribing to threads?

Seems like every thread I post in thank you I am automatically subscribed to it and I cant figure out how to turn this off. I looked at the control panel but i can only find a list of subscribed threads but nothing else thank you.
Is there something obvious I'm missing? Thank you.

user cp> edit options

scroll to where it says 'messaging and notification', you'll see a box marked 'default thread subscription mode'. Set the drop down menu to 'Do Not Subscribe' then make sure you scroll to the bottom of the page and click 'save changes'.

All should be good with the world.
