BMWs yeah, those are solidly built, my Dad used to drive this shitty 15-year-old one and it lasted till 200-something thousand miles. Would've lasted longer if some fucking kids didn't steal it and blow the transmission when they were trying to get away. Idiots couldn't drive stick. But Volkswagens are pretty shitty nowadays from what I've heard. They've gone downhill since the days of the Beetle and the Rabbit, they have all kinds of mechanical problems. They score pretty consistently near the bottom in Consumer Reports.
I posted in this thread awhile ago. I've got a new car now, an '89 Volvo 740 wagon. Built like a fucking tank, not a single mechanical problem. The sunroof's loose though, which is fucking annoying, it rattles so loud when you're going fast that you can't even keep up a conversation. I'll probably get it fixed in a month or so.
