It seems like, when you work for a company or boss, its not (only) your actual work skills that matter, but also a bunch of other things like politics, ass kissing, pr, hanging around with "the clique" in after-work hours, being a relative or best friend with someone in higher management, etc.

Sometimes these "other things" are more important (to management) than your actual work. I know people who work ALOT more than those who keep on kissing ass and playing "friend" to management, but for some reason these hard workers never make management, while no-skill ass kissers, grow and get promoted.

It seems pointless to me, for someone to consume his energy, skill and business experience, in a company that doesnt reward the individual based on his work, team spirit, character and achievement, but rather on his pr skills.

And if someone decided to fullfill this "corporate role" and be both the good/productive employee as well as someone who is there in all the company events (consuming himself so he can be liked by the long-face higher management and basically having no personal life in order to be elligible for a promotion) then IMO this person is putting way too much effort for a job that aint worth it.

If this person, put the same amount of energy into his own business, he would grow at a much faster rate, while at the same time building a strong foundation for the future. Because we all know that no matter how good or loyal an employee might be for a company, he is always replacable..
