it seems relatively possible to me that the movement of planets and stars could have an effect on individuals. they each have a gravitational pull and such which would affect things around them as they make their way through time/space. but that's just speculation on how it could be possible.
a good astrologer internalizes the archetypal forces represented by the heavenly objects much like a tarot card reader must internalize the archetypal forces represented by the cards to build a relationship with them and therefore be able to interpret what the cards/stars "say"
astrology is a complicated and imprecise "science" as the results depend on the astrologer's progress in bringing him or herself into harmony with the archetypal forces/concepts, which is to say one must be in harmony with the universe itself.
this is why divination, especially astrology and tarot have long been important tools for "secret" societies whose goals are the spiritual perfection of oneself (and ultimately mankind)
i speculate (being merely an observer, not a practitioner) that many incorrect or inaccurate readings may be due to the fact that pop astrology is written for masses of people and not individuals. also, most people seeking divination have some frivolous end in sight (love, jobs, etc.) and not one's personal spiritual evolution (bringing oneself into harmony with the universe).
there is this really great astrologer on myspace named Baron Samadhi von Cappockalypse, PhD who breaks things down very well. he explains the major celestial things going on, what sort of effect it may have on the world at large as well as in one's personal life, makes a few predictions, and then backs it up by discussing history - what exactly happened in the world over the last few hundred years each time the planets and stars were in the particular situation he's talking about.
i keep going back for his devilish humor, as he's fun to read, although the information can be a lot to take in at times
i'm a scorpio, btw. born friday, november 13
