darkness does exist, it's just defined as the absense of light.
just like being cold describes the absense of heat energy.
total darknes, or absolutely no light energy available, would not be measurable, since there is no light energy available to measure, therefore nothing to reference. To measure speed, we need a few variables. an object, or some type of energy, a distance, and time. In darkness there is no reference to any type of object or energy, therefore a part of the equation is missing, so it would be deemed immeasurable.
