Origin of existence/life?

What do you think is the origin of existence? Not just humanity, but the existence of the known Universe? How much do religion or spirituality influence your idea?
Also, how do you think life on Earth came to be?

I was watching a video debate on YouTube from a man criticizing another man's idea because it was "godless", thus making his points invalid. I think that religion has corrupted a lot of people's free thinking, but has inspired others...
I do not follow any organized religion, but I do agree with some of the ideas, such as: the existence of a creator or creative force, and that humans are in a way, special.
However I do not think that the creative force responsible for existence is entirely benevolent, because I think that it lacks emotion, because it is not a living being (having a life suggests the alternative possibility, being able to die). I think that it was responsible for the existence of matter, which inadvertently created the canvas allowing life to develop.
God is usually depicted as being a man, or at least in the image of man, explaining actual men (we were supposedly created in his image). Potential evidence supporting the theory of evolution does nothing to shake a lot of firm believers faith, and some people completely reject the notion of creationism due to its "absurdity" and far fetched back story. I reject the creationist belief due to the fact that religion is a man made ideal, and thus it must be flawed in some way because man is not perfect.
Continuing along with the point, it is possible that we are not "God's children" but we may be their neighbors. They may have a direct link to their God and the mysteries of life are explained to them in full detail, leaving the rest of us to wonder at the possibilities. It is possible that we are a culture growing from a petri dish called Earth. We have very short life spans, we have a short history, and in the grand scale of things we have not accomplished much but inventive ways to kill each other. Life on Earth could be a scientific experiment for the real developed sentient beings. In truth we know so very little but think we know so much.

In any case, I think that being a human is fantastic. Sex, cannabis, music, film ... I think everyone else is missing out. It is hard to wrap your mind around the fact that we maybe extremely primitive compared to another life form after you take a step back and look at all mankind has achieved. It seems so grand and magnificent (which it is ... to us) but may actually be nothing at all. It makes you wish you could experience the future of humanity, see everything that happens.

I think I've started to babble so I'm cutting it here. What do you guys think? And you don't necessarily have to dissect and probe at my idea, you could just share your own.
