If you ask a fundamentalist Christian if they believe everything in the Bible, that it is historically accurate and that the miracles performed by Jesus Christ were all true accounts, they would say yes.
If you asked them if Islam was true, they would say no. Muslims are following a false religion, worshipping false idols.
A man flies on a fucking winged horse to Jerusalem, and then flies to heaven on this horse and sees heaven with his own eyes. For 20 some years he babbles on and on, talking to Gabriel the angel, and writing down the story of Islam. This is part of the story of Islam.
In Christianity, Jesus walks on water, turns bread into fish, and water to wine. This however is NOT far fetched and completely believable to a Christian, whereas to everyone else it seems silly.
But this Christian belief is engraved into their mind to the point where it can't be undone. It is impossible for them to not believe. You cannot change their minds. They just quote "faith" as reason enough to believe. The story is so grand and elaborate that it must be true. "Nobody has proven it wrong in 2,000 years!" ... (nobody has proven it to be true in 2,000 years. or any organized religion for that matter). These people will never find out the truth, they will take their faith with them to the grave.
Perhaps that is what ultimately drives their faith, fear.
Fear of death, and what lies beyond. They are so afraid of losing their consciousness and not being able to experience thought that they make themselves believe in a man made fairy tale, to help them sleep better, thinking that when they die they will be rewarded for being such good keepers of the faith.
I've argued with my Christian friends, why is there no sign of any religious activity or spiritual activity in recent history?
They say that Jesus will return one day, but has yet to do so. They say there are events happening world wide that are beacons of his approach. War, famine, genocide, whatever. I say they are simply the way of the world, it is not religion.
And why should Jesus' return be the only great religious event? Why hasn't God done anything Biblical?
Did God take a two thousand year old nap? Is he tired from all the plagues and floods?
Perhaps he realized that we don't need God around to fuck up this world. We don't need frogs to rain from the sky or rivers to run red with blood. We have our own nukes, armys, and criminals.
I say God is not real. I am not trying to change anyones mind, and you will not change mine. Unless of course, you offer me actual hard evidence that God exists. Some physical proof. Science. Something that says he exists.
Not "well you haven't disproven his existence, so hah!" If I say that a fucking meatball planet in a galaxy of spaghetti 10 billion lightyears away is heaven, and in only Italians with the last name Pegorino are allowed in, you would call me a fucking buffoon. But I could use your logic and say "you haven't disproven it's existence" which would cause you to attempt to disprove it using logic and reason. Which is what "non-believers" do to your silly faith.
