there's a busy street i take every day on my way to work, so busy that there's always a long line of cars in the right turn lane leading up to the light. the lane crosses over two railroad tracks about a hundred feet apart and every day, without fail, someone who didn't feel like waiting with everyone else cruises along in the adjacent lane and darts in front of me over the tracks (i obviously don't feel like stopping on some train tracks, yeah?).
i smile a nod, knowing i've done my part to help someone arrive at their destination safely. and i can't help but wonder whether having someone cut in front of me so regularly means that there is a great number of cutters out there, and if so, them getting in the lane earlier and waiting with everyone else would mean a substantially longer wait for everyone. life's funny like that, you really can appreciate anything.
