The lids are to be boiled and screwed on the jars immediately after adding hot (whatever).
Voila, sealed and air tight!

I poor boiling water into mason jars for tea all the time...theyre very durable. not to say you shouldnt do this, AND im sure the Specific Heat (chem, anyone?) or olive oil is higher than water so...
