Michael Moore is a Big Fat Stupid White Man

Anyone see this book? Apparently the right is fighting back with a book devoted to attacking Michael Moore. They make a LOT of wild claims. For instance, they say that in Bowling for Columbine, Moore edited Heston's speech to an obscene amount so it would portray him as a gun-crazy asshole.

Is there any truth to that? I really like Moore and Bowling is one of my all-time fav movies so is this shit true?

i dont think youll find much "truth" in that book, so be wary -- i believe he did edit the scene, im not sure about the claims and i havent seen nor anyone here has seen the scene in entirety (before editing), so i guess well never know for sure

pretty much everybody knows that charlton heston is a crazy-gun nut, so editing wont do fuck all. heston looks like a mad man no matter what. maybe its just because of his alzheimers. there are a bunch of books and movies out there that talk shit. you can tell which ones lie and which designers are only after the big and quick buck.

everyone knows? that's a pretty strong statement. especially when you say he "looks" like a mad man. if you're going to berate him, at least have some facts to back you up.

(no, i'm not defending heston, just defending his right to not be judged)

It's true that he used the death's of children as an excuse to hold surprise rallies to favor gun support. Any descent person would just give the families involved some space and not worry whether he's going to lose a couple clients.

Moore is good to actually encounter the guy and ask him a bunch of questions. Did he not get him to say he cares more about guns than children's safety? Or at least made him give that impression?

It's amazing the world needs someone like Moore to stop bullets from being sold to kids at K-Mart. But apparently the world does.

So good for Moore.

And good for Moore for having the balls to make a movie bashing the president of his own country.

Who else would have the balls to do that?

I don't even care if some of his facts are tainted, he deserves praise just for going along with it. Fuck, like Bush isn't tainting any facts about 9-11.

It's amazing more people are pissed about a guy making a movie, then a President lying about facts about an incident that killed like 5000 people.

Michael Moore did not really bash his own country. He did bash the government though and sent a message to the citizens telling them things need to change. This is where most people miss the boat on Michael Moore. They try to nitpick everything in his documentaries. By doing that, they miss the true meaning of what he is trying to say.

He isn't the first person to follow people around with a camera and microphone. He asks people why they do what they do. Most run away and refuse to answer. These people have no feeling toward their fellow man. Do you think Charleton Heston really needs a gun in that fortress he lives in?? Do you think Charleton Heston cares about what happened at Columbine High School or in Flint, MI?? Those families who lost loved ones were nowhere near as rich as he is. Why should he care about them??

This is the same way our politicians are today also. Did you watch as they ran away from Michael Moore when he asked them to send their kids to Iraq??
The problem we have today is we no longer have the government of the people, by the people, and for the people. It's of the rich people, by the rich people, and for the rich people. This is the message that Michael Moore is sending. how we are controlled through fear. This turns into anger and hatred. This is why we have prohibition. I direly wish Michael Moore would undrstand that and do a documantary about it.

Most people who bash Michael Moore have never seen his stuff. He has a very interesting way of finding things you will never see anywhere else. Warch his first film, Roger and Me. He was sending a warning in 1989 of the things that are happening today. Plants closing left and right. People out of work. We are in a depression. The media just won't admit to it. The market is way down. We only have one chance of saving our country and that is to relegalize hemp. People will go back to work and we will be exporting products out of this country. Makes too much sense. I think the government has been listening to the old Police recording titled Stop Making Sense. I sure can't make any sense out of what they do. Michael Moore doesn't either.

realy just confirms to me, that the issue in this case(guns and american culture), Moore does what he always does...

Refer back to my previous reply. They nitpick his works apart. It was the message he wanted to get across. Don't you think the NRA could have postponed it's meetings after a tragedy? After all, they postponed the NFL for a week after 9/11. Michael Moore sends the message in the time alotted. He doesn't have time to explain everything while he is going along. These guys make it look like he purposely edits things to make the people in them look bad. He just wants to get his feelings across.

His main message in Bowling is how we are manipulated by the media through fear. There are many things he didn't cover regarding Columbine like how the sheriff's deputy exchanged gunfire with the two gunmen outside the school before they ever went in. He did not follow them in. He called for backup. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is being sued because of this. He also didn't mention how badly the families of the two gunmen were treated by everyone, including the other parents and the law enforcement. They got threatening phone calls at all hours of the day and night.

Like I said before, check out his first film. He was way ahead of his time just like we are way ahead of our by wanting to do away with the prohibition laws.
