Hemp Belt?

I made one awhile back and kinda remember, i think i remember the pattern but i don't remember what lengths of hemp to use so i don't fall short, or use to much. I used to have a site bookmarked but i think it closed down and i cant find another site that gives me a how to anywhere! anyone know a good site that actually tells how to make a hemp belt? Or know the proper lengths?

braided hemp?

that depends of course on how many strands you intend to braid

I did a leather belt years ago which required twelve times the finished length, don't remember how mnay strands I was braidng though

Really depends how much/what kind of knotting you're working with. Certain knots will eat up more hemp than others. I think for my belt I used 6x the finished length or so. I don't remember.

Just a series of basic square knots, about an inch and a half wide maybe, long enough to go around my girlfriends waist. O well, i'll figure it out, thanks guys

If you're doing the standard square knot using four strands (well the way I do it, I actually only cut 2 strands and then I double them up). If that's the way you do it too, then each of the the 2 strands (before doubling them up) will need to be 4 times the length of the finished product. So just measure how long you want it to be, mark your spot, and then fold it over until you have pulled out 4 times that amount. Works for me every time.

the great thing about weaving bracelets and belts and whatnot is that you can pretty much make up your own pattern. You'll be surprised how often it looks cool.
