ITT: I carve a chain
I've already done the first step, it takes the longest. It goes faster after that until the end when it's all sanding and making it pretty.
The first step was to make the stick into a shape so that it's cross-section looks like a plus sign.

Cuts where each link will begin.
more pics tomorrow

Cool man, I dig some carving myself, it's a neat idea. Looks a little fragile though.
Edit: I know I would get to the last link and it would break.

are you gonna drill holes in the links? and actually have like a real chain.
that would be intense

It is fragile but I'm going to be patient with it and use a sharp knife.

Yep! No need for an actual drill but the plan is to make it into an actual chain.

shaping of the inside of the links
the shape defined some more
coming along! At this point the points where the links are still connected are at the ends of each link on inside and out, down the center of the stick.

What gave you the idea to do such a thing?

Well like Mr. Rue said it's not really my idea, but anyone can do it. A sharp knife is a must. I'm using exacto blades.
getting wiggly
At this point there are two loose pieces, each of four still-connected links. I expect to have eight loose pieces by tonight.

That's sweet as hell. I've been wanting to do that for a while, but I'm to lazy to even get started.
Next time, go for the gusto
