Yeah I would have been very sad if the rattlesnake was indeed a goner, so I was excited to see it making it's way into the grass as I drove close to it. Watching it slither away was the most insane part though, he was sidewinding instead of moving in a straight line. I know that a lot of people have a deep fear for snakes (and reptiles in general) so I'm sure someone would have run him over just to be an asshole.

As for my camera, it's just a sony cybershot (digital). I always keep in on me so that I can be prepared if a photogenic critter happens to come my way.

here are a few snakes that i ran into during my past couple trips to southern utah:

first is a baby rattlesnake that i stepped right over as i was climbing a rocky outcrop.

second is a great basin gopher snake slithering back into his cave carved out of the chinle shale.

third is a california kingsnake (i think) i saw when driving home at night.

theorangejulius, those are beauties. Human-yo, thanks for the childhood memories.

Couple more. One is a detail shot of a cobra under a ledge. The other is a tiny snake. It's got the big head, so it's possible it's a pit viper, but I don't know.

Hey, thanks for fucking up this thread. You want to kill a snake to protect your cat, go ahead, but I really didn't think I needed to specify I didn't want snakes with their heads blown off here. Lame.

Damn, for real. He's like "I hated killing it so much, I really didn't want to. So I took pics!!"

And just so you know, wannasmoke, there are more out there. You can't kill them all. You can only watch where you step.
