HDR photography (big pics)

Have you guys heard of HDR photography? I've been playing around with it recently, here are some of my latest attempts:

how did you combine the images? i don't know very much about it but those are nice photos.

You basically bracket the exposure on each shot. So I take a few under exposed, a few middle and a few over exposed and blown out. Then I use a program called Photomatix and merge them into an HDR, after which I then tone-map the images in the program which lets me achieve different effects. I can make them look more cartoony or more realistic, depending on the picture. Here's one thats more on the realism side:

my camera has settings for bracketting the exposure levels by taking a series of pictures. i'll see what i can do and try out the program you mentioned

Word, just make sure to get a couple shots that are completely blown out on the higher EV's. They really capture the detail.

Just thought I'd share one more. This is a psuedo-HDR comprised of one shot with emulated EV levels. Trippy as fuck though! This is in the San Diego Balboa Park Botanical Gardens.

Edit - I just noticed that if you look on the back window of that Land Cruiser in the above photo, you can see the rainbow reflected on the ride side.

Photoshop CS 3 has the BEST HDR output out there, and its free if you torrent.
