We've tapped around 30 Maples.........and a few White Birch too. There ain't any Yellow Birch in the immediate area, otherwise we'd tap a few of them.

Medicinal Syrup!

They need to be emptied every 4-5 days......depending on temp fluctuations....

The Bears have found the pails........and are having themselves a drink.

^All these were taken at one of my favorite parks. It's HUGE so you can walk around in relative privacy. During this particular trip, the dogwood trees were in bloom and it was quite a site. In one area, there were literally hundreds of them. I walked through them and felt like I was in a dream, surrounded by sweet-smelling puffs of petals.

Birch Bark Bird Feeder.......

Speaking about Birch Bark.........anyone want to make some Bird Feeders??

Easy, water-proof and the Birds will Love you~

We always take the Bark from a tree that has mushrooms growing on it or a fallen tree, never a live one!

Birch come is 4 colors to my knowledge, black, silver, yellow and white.

This project takes about 45 minutes to do.................. .

Get yourself an big, empty Javex or fabric softener bottle........cut off the top where it starts to narrow, so you have a perfect cylinder. Peirce 2 holes in the bottom 2-3 inches apart. This is where you'll run a strong wire or rope through right to the top so it's strong and you can hang it from a tree. Squirrels will not be able to get at the feed. Make 4 small square holes at the base of your empty jug......this is where the Birds will feed. Run 2 straight branches through............p lace holes at 12 o'clock, 3, 6 and 9.

Wrap your jug with the Bark and glue it........the top of the feeder is cone shaped, again made with the Bark. The rope runs through the middle of the cone, you'll be able to slide up the cone to re-fill the feeder.

We'll post up ours next week.......
