HPV (human papilloma virus), Most have it

Well not everybody,

But in the US, one in four sexually active young women have HPV, and according to what I've read 75% of sexually active persons will get HPV. It is the worlds most common sexually transmitted infection (they call them STIs now instead of STDs, its more accurate) around the world.

It can cause anogenital warts, and warts in the mouth or lungs. Some types on the face or hands too. The worse types of HPV can cause cervical or other types of cancer.

But overall, its not too much of a concern. The vast majority of cases are not a big deal, especially for men (who often carry it, but with good immune systems will loose the infection over the course of a few years), and do not result in cancer. The genital warts are not cancerous, and the type that causes anogenital warts does not cause cancer, though you may carry more then one type.

Just thought you guys should know. I've been finding out about it (and thankfully I think I am good) and figured you all might appreciate me sharing.

Its just something to know about, I hadn't even heard of it till a few months back.

last year texas governor rick perry issued an executive order which required all pre-teen girls to be vaccinated against hpv. it turned out that the company which created the vaccine (merck) provided perry's campaign with sizable donations. and if that wasn't enough, a merck lobbyist (mike toomey) also served as perry's chief of staff. the state legislature subsequently introduced and passed a bill which blocked state officials from following his order.

It is one of the only diseases considered endemic to the United states. If you are 30 and under you have it will have it or have had it. It was once thought that you kept it forever but now it has been realized that the disease is shed in about 2 years but most people keep some form of it or have more than one forms at a time. Other than the few strands that cause cancer it is harmless.....most people never have any indications that they have the condition. People with impaired immune systems suffer the most because they have horrible breakouts the pics of warts you see online and in medical books are usually HIV or AIDS patients.

The vaccination only works if you don't already have it. Or if you do have some types of it, only against the types you don't have and it does work on (it doesnt work against all).

are you friggin kidding?

wow.

im all for vaccinations an all, but not when they're forced down the throats of the public, especially when it's funded by pharmaceutical companies.

I know.

It's just a preventative measure. It's a start though, and a good thing...which of course, I think should be voluntary.

And? That decision lies with the parents and their children. Whatever age they may be.

Yea probably, but they would offer it in the schools like other vaccines I think. Cut back on the cancer, cause you know, we Canadians share a common interest in each others health/paying for healthcare taxes.

Hm. Interesting. You can only get vaccinations in the states (california at the very least) from a Doctor...they're nowhere in schools.

so was there this huge cervical cancer epidemic before they made the vaccine?

Honestly i hadn't even heard of that kind of cancer until recently.

and isn't hpv just warts? So don't be sticking your wart covered dick up a chick and she shouldn be fine.
Of course this post is highly scientificall and should be taken seriously.

Guys can get anal cancer, especially if your going in there, and what I am more concerned about is throat cancer, from chowin down on a girl with it. Its not like you use a condom on your mouth.

my main non joke question is has this disease been around thousands of years or is it now just making its way into mainstream?
