It has been said that before enlightenment, chop wood and carry water. And that after enlightenment, chop wood and carry water.

This was on my mind today as it was carrying two 5 gallon buckets of dirt a dozen feet and hoisting them to empty in the back of the truck.

The thing that is good about my work is that there is alot of time to remain mindful of what is happening.

Today as this was happening, an insight or awareness came to the breath. It was hard to get a full breath it seemed. But as it goes you keep working on. A few minutes later the awareness came back to the breath. Wow, the breathing is alot easier and these buckets are easily tossed over the side.

The breath is an awesome force. It teaches about the rising and falling of life, the changes that are inevitable, impermanence. It was a pleasurable feeling, very poiniently noted today under the weight of the buckets. Some days are feel like normal practice, but today I just felt really stuck by it more than usual.

cool. I know what you mean about the work giving you plenty of time to be mindful and I've called the jobs themselves mindless. The use of word mindful referring to yourself puts the situation in a better light. I actually kind of like those kind of jobs.
