The third annual Portland Hempstalk, which calls for the re-legalization of cannabis, was denied a permit Wednesday by the Portland City Council.
Evidently the event was undermined by an activist drug enforcement agent who has told medical cannabis users to turn to Jesus for pain relief. At a recent marijuana rally, Kenneth Magee, the head of the DEA office in Oregon "was exhorting individual medical marijuana patients to give up their addictions to marijuana and take Jesus into their hearts. Jesus would cure their pain," according to Ann Witte, a Portland attorney and one of many Hempstalk planners seeking tolerance from the city council. "It is the DEA which is behind the move to stop Hempstalk." Seeing as canonical scripture records Jesus accepting ointment after lengthy travels in the wilderness, is Mr. Magee implying that Jesus should have merely prayed to himself for relief? How about all those times when Jesus is recorded to have expressed compassion for people who were sick and disabled? Or is Mr. Magee like those Roman soldiers who cynically offered up sour wine for Jesus to drink as he was tortured to death by governmental and religious officials? Regardless, one thing is clear... When the coercion of the state conjoins with the dogma of the church, torture and murder are often the result. For those of you who wish to contact Mr. Magee and encourge him to accept Jesus and stop crucifying medical cannabis patients, you may reach him through the Portland DEA office at (503) 326-3371. I always knew Jesus was anti-Christian.
