Thumbs up Federal Medical Marijuana Bill Introduced by Rep. Ron Paul

Federal Medical Marijuana Bill Introduced by Rep. Ron Paul
House of Representatives to Consider Medical Cannabis Legislation!

Urge Your Representative to Support H.R. 5842 NOW!

“I think marijuana is a helpful medical treatment for the people who have intractable nausea,” Paul said in a 2004 House debate regarding a similar measure. “I would like to point out this is not something strange that we are suggesting here. For the first 163 years of our history in this country, the federal government had total hands off, they never interfered with what the states were doing.”-Ron Paul

Representative Ron Paul and Representative Barney Frank have introduced H.R. 5842, the “Medical Marijuana Patient Protection Act”, which seeks to enact legal protections for authorized medical marijuana patients, in the House of Representatives. Now is the time to contact your House member and urge him or her to support this important legislation.

H.R. 5842 will help to ensure that medical marijuana patients in those states where medical cannabis legislation has been approved will no longer have to fear arrest or prosecution from federal law enforcement agencies. However, this proposal will only receive serious consideration if your elected officials hear an unmistakable message of support from their constituents.

Currently, twelve states -- Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington -- have enacted laws protecting medical marijuana patients from state prosecution. It’s time that we allowed our unique federalist system to work the way it was intended, and permit these states’ citizens and their representatives to enact laws permitting the medical use of cannabis, free from federal interference.

Please take two minutes of your time today to contact your House member and tell him or her to support this important measure.

United States House of Representatives, 110th Congress, 2nd Session

Roach,
The purpose of writing your representative is not necessarily to get them to respond, nor does a lack of response signify that your message has been disregarded; rather the purpose of writing your representative is to let that person know how their politically active constituents feel about a given issue. It is akin to how polls are used. The politician’s staff usually keeps a tally and uses this to report to the congressman on the pulse of the electorate on a given issue.

I have written to my on many issues over the years. I usually get a form letter or form email in reply. Sometimes there is no response. Each representative has his own way of handling communication from his or her constituents. Either way, I don’t give up. I continue to use the system as designed to work for change. I hope you will do the same. It’s the only thing we’ve got.

It is my impression that once the topic of marijuana (anything) is realized ,whatever is sent is immediately dispatched into the garbage.

but that's my 20 or so years of having been an activist talking.

my suggestion as of about 5 years ago has been and will remain...Just learn to become better criminals ,marijuana will never be treated the way 'we' (stoners) want it.

In some ways ,I do admire those who maintain the struggle ,regardless of how futile I personally believe it to be.

kudos.

I completely agree on that. I also believe though that one single nor a group of 20 voices can't change this. This is an issue that requires the voices of hundreds even thousands at a time ralleying in front of city halls and courthouses all over the country. It must be relentless and loud. Do not forget that it's not the lawmakers who make the laws it the people. What are the lawmakers supposed to vote on if we the people (thier bosses) don't tell em what to vote for. Thier own personal beliefs? Nooooo our country run by personal beliefs of only a few hundred. Things need to change. CHANGE IT TOGETHER!.

Although not much progress has been made in way of the goals of stoners worldwide, I feel that the organizations and people who make tireless effort to promote medical marijuana use, and marijuana decriminalization have been making some progress, and if that continues into other states, eventually, the federal government will probably stop and say, "Wait...wait one minute...you mean to tell me that 30 states have decriminalized medical marijuana use and minor marijuana possession? Thats absurd. Congress didn't vote on that. We'll have to send some feds out there to arrest people and crap."

When that happens...we'll revolt. By that, I mean forcing the prisons to release minor drug offenders...but that's soooo crazy and will likely never, ever happen....because that takes really, really extreme measures; i.e. swords and poopy-filled water balloons. EEEEEEWWWW.

Of course, there is always the off-chance that government will say, "Well, if a majority of the states have altered their laws to allow medical marijuana use and decriminalize possession, I guess that means we sort of have to, implicitly. Why? Because a majority of the state legislative bodies have done it, and all of the politicians in the states know what the f*ck is going on, right? They chill with the people all the time. We kind of just have to follow suit, and listen to the state governments on this one, kthxbye." Then, we'd win. But man...that's about as likely as the electromagnetically powered car.

And ^that^ is called 4:20 am blazing after being up all night working on school crap and wanting to unleash a vast flood of stoned logic on t3h intarweb.

You know I dont see why we dont revolt any ways. Majority of the states already think marijuana should be legal anyways. Majority being voters. I have said this over and over. Everyone blames the government. Where in the last 200 years did everyone think that the government was seperate from the people. The only reason we are being suppressed on soi many different topics is because look at who we are voting to represent us. I say If you have a problem then excersise your rights. get peptitions circulating. Do something. If you smoke herb your already fighting for your right to smoke. Lets just make it a tad bit more obvious. We run the government, they dont run us!. I'm a vet I refuse to be held down by suppressive laws created by people who are supposed to represent us not thier personal beliefs.
