Forever War

I am reading this great book called Forever War, a scifi novel about a seemingly neverending interstellar conflict that has caused untold suffering and pain. The people in the books universe almost overwhelmingly want peace, but the governments of both sides have vested interest in the continuation of the war.

Eventually it goes on for so long no one even remembers why they are fighting, they do it out of mere reflex, continuing a war their ancestors fought with no idea why they are there.

The book made me think about our current situation in regard to our two foreign wars. It seems to me the moment Obama was elected the Democrats were quick to throw their anti war rhetoric overboard. Instead of hearing politicians tell us we should leave Iraq and Afghanistan now we are told we have to stay until the countries can run on their own.

One of the proudest things I can say about my constantly evolving thoughts on politics was I was against both wars before they even began, at the age of 16 I was already vehemently anti war and I have stuck to that position ever since.

I understand the arguments that the Taliban was evil, as was Saddam, I certainly don't lose sleep when despotic governments are thrown out, but is what we replaced those governments with really so much better? We have a Shia controlled government in Iraq, a country of Sunnis. We chose the Shia because they were most willing to work with us, just as we chose Afganistan's current puppet-in-chief.

The people of these countries are seeing through our pro Western puppet governments and are striking back in ever increasing numbers. They do not want us there, yet we have stayed despite this for almost ten years.

We are not in this war to help people, we are not in this war to build nations, we are not in this war to protect our own citizens, but our own governments' interests. We have colonized two sovereign countries and the majority of Americans are too goddamn stupid to understand it.

For once I would like to see my country put its money where its mouth is and stop viewing the world in dollar signs. For once I would like an end to our system of imperialism-as-aid. We are using the same arguments for staying in these countries as we used when we colonized the Phillipines. These poor brown savages cannot fathom the idea of freedom so we'll just have to stay here indefinetly until they do.

Most importantly Americans must wake up and realize that it is the Forever War that makes other nations fear and despise us, maybe then we can work to finally end it.

A coffee shop in Portland, Oregon is the nation's first marijuana cafe where certified medical cannabis users can come to get the drug and smoke it, as long as they stick to state law and smoke out of public view.

Cafe Rumpspankers, which will soon carry the name Cannabis Cafe, is testing a new relaxed policy by President Barack Obama regarding medical marijuana users. The policy, handed down by the administration in October, restricts federal attorneys from prosecuting patients who use the drug for medical reasons and dispensaries in states that have legalized them.

Other states, such as California and Colorado, have legalized medicinal marijuana, but their laws only allow for dispensaries.

The Oregon chapter of NORML (National Organization for the Repeal of Marijuana Laws) participates in managing the cafe.

The only people permitted in the Cannabis Cafe are those licensed to smoke who also hold membership in the lobbying group, reports Anne Saker of OregonLive.com. According to Saker's report, visitors to the establishment will be charged $5 a day, and can bring their own pot or smoke donated marijuana. Oregon law says medical marijuana may not be sold.

Read more of Saker's report on the launch of the Cannabis Cafe.

please note that i have copied and pasted this thread in full from a political forum i post in. we're just asking questions here, and these questions aren't going to just go away!

DidGlennBeckRapeAndM urderAYoungGirlIn199 0.com: Home Page

Now, I'm not saying that Glenn Beck raped and murdered a young girl back in 1990. I personally don't really even believe that Glenn Beck brutally raped and then proceeded to viciously murder an innocent young girl in 1990. But, all of this could be put to rest if Glenn Beck provided some sort of evidence or at the very least even issued some sort of denial that he horribly raped a young defenseless girl before tragically ripping her life from her body, never able to see her friends and family again on one fateful night in the 1990's.

But Beck hasn't denied the allegations of the brutal rape and inhuman murder of this young girl. In fact, quite suspiciously, Glenn Beck got his lawyer to sue the website to have it removed from the internet and to obtain the name of the site administrator. Isn't it a bit unusual that Glenn Beck, king of free speech, would suddenly abandon these principals in order to shut down a website focusing on his extinguishing the bright future of a young girl who loved life, after forcibly penetrating her against her will as she hopelessly screamed for help before he silenced her for eternity?

He could easily offer an alibi. I'm sure he had friends and family that could vouch for his whereabouts during 1990. Heck, just acknowledging the charges and issuing a denial would go a big way towards putting this whole thing to rest. But all we get is silence and lawsuits (which he lost, by the way, free speech triumphed over Beck's attempted censorship). His suspicious behavior is just feeding the whole thing and the tides are turning against him.

So, come on, Glenn Beck, did you hide in the bushes one blustery night waiting for this young girl to come walking along all by her young self before pouncing on her and ripping her pants off and violently stripping her innocence and youth away through indescribably brutal sexual molestation all while ignoring her constant sobbing before smothering the flame of her life like the terrible good for nothing shit headed murdering rapist you are? I mean, I don't believe any of this at all, but I'm just asking. Because I have my suspicions.

You just spent $20,000,000 to move members/supporters of Hamas, a terrorist organization, to the United States ; They get housing, food, the whole enchilada.

HB 1388 PASSED

Whether you are an Obama fan, or not, EVERYONE IN THE U. S. needs to know.....

Something happened.... H.R. 1388 was passed, behind our backs. You may want to read about it.. It wasn ' t mentioned on the news... just went by on the ticker tape at the bottom of the CNN
screen.

Obama funds $20M in tax payer dollars to immigrate Hamas Refugees to the USA . This is the news that didn ' t make the headlines...
By executive order, President Barack Obama has ordered the expenditure of $20.3 million in "migration assistance" to the Palestinian refugees and "conflict victims" in Gaza .

The "presidential determination", which allows hundreds of thousands of Palestinians with ties to Hamas to resettle in the United States , was signed and appears in the Federal Register.

Few on Capitol Hill, or in the media, took note that the order provides a free ticket replete with housing and food allowances to individuals who have displayed their overwhelming support to the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the parliamentary election of January 2006.

Doubtful? To verify this for yourself: Part Ii: Presidential Documents Federal Register [FR Doc E9-2488] <http://www.thefederalregist er.com/d.p/2009-02-04-E9-2488>

PLEASE PASS THIS ON... AMERICA NEEDS TO KNOW

WE are losing this country at a rapid pace. :cuss::cuss:

As you know Dobbs has been hate on for his anti-illegal immigration views and supposidely his relationship with CNN has become strained.

I'd like to mention that I don't believe in borders, so I for sure don't believe in stopping immigration, but thats another issue. The fact is that it IS illegal and for good reason (under the current system where the citizens pay the government to take care of them). Why is it such a shocking and insulting thing to support a law?
I don't understand what is so offensive about being against illegal immigration? I'm personally not against it, but it doesnt make me think anyone who is is some racist trash.

It's funny how leftists are so against globalization, yet they bash Dobbs for his anti-globalist views.

One more time I'd like to say I dont share his opinion, I just think it's wrong that you can no longer be a conservative on any other station than bullshit-ass FUX.

the dems have to do class warfare and raise taxes and have a big fight about who gets the crumbs of the rich people, as a result jobs will continue to be lost and our economy will continue to tank, and smart rich americans would probably do well to move to another country that is less socialist.

at the end of the day were gonna have higher tax rates than FRANCE and while some people are just happy they will get a new handout, i hope enough others realize that handouts are temporary, and the job losses this retarded policy will cause are permanent. or at least much more permanent than your little couple of bucks obama is gonna kick back to you for voting for him .

we need a gingrich revolution soooo bad.

dont u think its fucked up that pelosi and kerry and the millionaire democrats have decided that you have to pay 10% more of your earnings to them just because they said so ?

ps, and once they've raised em on the richest people, people like u and me will not be far behind. the govt just takes and takes and takes . wtf.

Massive Escalation Seems Modest Compared to McChrystal Demands

In March, President Obama approved a roughly 21,000 man escalation in Afghanistan, which at the time was an enormous escalation of a war which President Bush had himself escalated just a few months prior.

This escalation accomplished little, and 2009 has ended up being the deadliest year by far since the 2001 US invasion. President Obama will therefore be sending another massive escalation to the nation very soon.

Advisers have reportedly narrowed it down to three options, a 20,000-25,000 troop escalation, a 45,000 troop escalation, and a “compromise” of about 34,000 which is seen as the favorite at the moment.

Though 34,000 is an enormous additional commitment, and will likely strain the military with 120,000 troops still on the ground in Iraq (and likely not going anywhere for quite some time) and around 68,000 in Afghanistan already, it is being treated as a very modest move.

It isn’t hard to see why, either. Gen. McChrystal’s much publicized 40,000 troop request quickly became 45,000, and then 60,000. By mid-October, the McChrystal Plan was calling for 80,000 additional troops. Though the military literally didn’t have 80,000 or even 60,000 additional troops to send, the fact that the idea was put out there will likely play to President Obama’s favor, and will make his 34,000 troop “surge” look like a reasonable response by comparison.

******************** ******************** ******************

Jesus, this shit is just unbelievable. I remember when the low end was 10,000 and the high end was 40,000. A leak here and a "60 minutes" appearance there and the nutjob general gets what he wants.
