I've got a few tricks I'd like to share with you.
I'll start at the beginning....... The first thing that is so important is to have the right strain for your growing area. For example, I can't grow BubbleGum outside here for it is what I call Halloween plants. Meaning ready only in late october......too late for here, we get frost in early october. Next I like to clone using pucks or sprout seeds in them. I bring the tray out to the bush and plant them in pots to start. The soil recipe for those seedlings is part of the key to making huge plants. You'll transplant into ! gallon pots now with this recipe. Put them in a partially shaded area for a week or so. Recipe 1 bail of BX Pro-Mix 1 bag of cow manure 1 bag of mushroom compost 1 bag of shrimp compost 3 cups of bone meal 3 cups of blood meal 1 cup of lime Cost is around 40 bucks. 10-52-10 is what I use to begin with........ Now you have to dig some holes at 2 o'clock in an open area.......not too close to the side. In these holes I put 1 cup of bat guano and 2 shovels of old cow manure from a farm and a shovel or 2 of the soil recipe. Throw in 10 Folic Acid pills (1mg) as well. Once planted I switch to 20-20-20. Around the base of the plant I use a combination of peat moss, perilite and coconut fiber. I'l post a pic if you's want! This keeps the plant from drying out and say it's gonna rain.......I sprinkle the dry ferts into that combination and when it rains they slowly get their food. I either buy nettle of find it growing wild and dry it........then I boil it like tea and let it steep and cool down. Add all of that to the pail of water with the ferts and give it to them. Swamp water is better........but the creek will do fine too. Forget what the manufacturer says about how much to use.......for every 20 litres of water I put in almost 3/4 of of cup of ferts maybe more. I give 2 handfulls.....mind you I have a small hand~ I like to feed them at least 3 times a week...... Every week I add 20 mg's of folic acid right into the 20 litre pail that has ferts and nettle. At the first sign of bud I switch to 15-30-15 and get the other guano for bud. Every 2nd week give each plant about a half a cup of guano mixed into the perilite, peat moss....at the base of the plant. Having a light loom ontop makes it easy to add pills directly into it or add dry ferts before a rain. I keep my eye on the radar in my area......so I know when the rain is coming. I may of forgot a few things.....but that's how i make tress 12 feet tall~ Any questions? That was long, but I think I told all!

I much prefer trees myself.
12 foot is probably about as tall a tree I have grown since allowing them to get taller would make them hard to manage.Don't forget, very important....full sun, full sun....full sun. Or as close to that as possible. And I couldn't resist....'swamp water' will generally be starved of oxygen. I'd imagine that if one had a bottle 3/4 full of swamp water and then shook it violently, that water would absorb much oxygen and the plants roots would be happier. If the water had some molasses in it too...the mollasses would change the viscosity of that water making it more syrupy allowing for much more oxygen to get trapped in the water. Good write up though.....free the trees. ![]()

I won't remember this next spring and Pharm has a habit of deleting, so I'm making this a sticky.

Pharm likes to plant in old Indian Burial grounds. The soil is rich in some weird organic fertilizer.

There is no switch is soil formula............ They are planted in an expensive recipe in pots then when I put them in the ground they get 2 shovels of cow manure and 2 shovels of the expensive stuff and some guano. On top of the plants I put a light loom soil recipe so I can add folic acid pills and dry ferts before a rain. The light loom allows for slow absorbtion cause dry ferts will burn the plant. Did I aim right........

Let`s try an analogy............s uppose you have a lemon meringue pie...........the crust being Mother Earth and the lemon filling being the expensive soil recipe............an d the meringue being the light loom soil....with a candle being the stalk in the middle.
So, once the hole is dug, put your shovels of manure, soil recipe being the same as in the pots and the guano. |

Lost..........you don`t know what or how a pie looks... First comes the crust, then filling, and, then comes the topping. My 3rd and last explanation......... ..... Dig a hole about 2 feet deep Throw in 2 shovels of cow manure and 2 shovels of my soil recipe. Put in 1 cup of vegging guano. Plunk the plant in the middle. Top it off with the light loom recipe. (Perilite, peat moss and coconut fibers) Last edited by Pharm Girl; 09-24-2007 at 08:39 PM. |
