cloning?
i'v recently been reading up on some growing information. and i was trying to learn about cloning as i didnt understand it much before. I understand the process and eveything now but i still have one question that i was hoping maby a fellow yahookan could help me with.
from what I have read when you take a clone from a mother plant it has the same genetics. so it it is a guaranteed female, same strain etc. It also said the clone carries the same age as the mother plant? so if it has the same age does that mean you can skip the vegetative growth stage and induce flowing immediately with the 12/12 light cycle? I have a feeling that i'm not thinking correctly here because the plant would just be so small or so i would think. |

"you take a clone from a mother plant it has the same genetics. so it it is a guaranteed female, same strain" - this is correct.
"inducing flowering immediately with the 12/12 light cycle would result in the plant being small" (my edit)- this is also correct You probably want to clone a plant that is only in the vegetative stage so your clone can grow to the size you want, then you can put it into the flowering cycle so it buds. Rule of thumb is the plant will gain about half again in height or a bit more during flowering. If you clone a flowering plant and then put it into a veg cycle it will take a while to return to the vegetative stage thus wasting time (and electricity if it`s under lights). I`ve been told there can be other side effects of cloning plants which too far into the flowering stage, not sure if this is true, havn`t tried it myself. Once you have a good strain cloning is the way forward- go forth and clone. ![]()

It is very difficult to clone a flowering plant successfully as most of the plants energy is directed towards flowering, not growing roots. In the leafy vegetative stage it is relatively easy to take and grow multiple clones from a mother plant. Growing anything less than a foot high will yield a very low amount usually, and is generally not worth the effort.
