couple quick questions. for veg and all that use light 24 hours right? and use 24 hour light for the whole process until flowering? and when its time to flower switch to 12/12? and does it matter when you flower? or do the ladies gotta be a certain age

24/24 is good for veg.

It`s often best to wait until the plant wants to flower. You can tell when this is because they show the preliminary signs of flowering. This is called preflowering. When it shows will depend on the strain and environment.

Google to find photos.

There are ways around having to wait for preflowering to happen. If you have a clone of a plant that has already reached preflowering then you can flower as soon as it has roots for good effect.

Flowering is induced by changing the light schedule to 12/24 or less.

Flowering a plant before it shows preflowering will usually take longer and might stress the plant. Some strains will take it better than others I guess.

by 24/24 do u mean 24 hours on and 24 off. or just 24 all around until flowering? and 12/24, 12 on and 24 off? im inexperienced, i have only grown a clone and it was sun grown in the summer. so this is my first indoor grow.

24/24 = constant.

12/24 = 12 out of 24 ie half the time.

Plants which are Vegging or flowering work on a number of hours recieving sunlight system. Equatorial strains which receive constant light usually flower after a certain age, but are rare in today's growing industry. Once a plant has sufficient roots to support robust growth and at least (IMO) 6 leaves it can be triggered to flower. Once the light drops below 14 hours approx. the plant will produce hormones telling it winter is approaching and flowering should happen in hopes of pollination and seed production. it is felt that once the light is down to 12 hours the plant will "Try" harder to produce flowers as an early winter appears to be coming and it better grow flowers as fast as it can.12/12 is an easy schedule for growers to follow who run 2 rooms and alternate lights. Their is a lot less heat and power flow from 2 lights at a time than 4 lights at once.

12/12 works just fine. Others have theories that reduction to 10 on/14 off in the last 2 weeks speeds up resin production, but I can't independently verify that.

Some sativas have a tendency to keep vegging even under 12/24 so some run them at 14/10. Also some people give them 36 hrs ish under darkness to kickstart them into flowering. Not sure how much it actually helps.

Ha I just realised how confusing this is. 14/10 means 14 hrs of darkness and 10 hrs of light.
