Ir probably depends how yor lights are hooked up (in a wall outlet, or ran directly form the ac wires in your wall)

I've never grown so i'm not really sure how most are set up.

If its a plug in you can get ones made for lamps and most hardware stores, walmart, maybe walgreens, etc. pretty common item.
if its powered the other way could could probably still do it, youd just have to crack open one of those timers and do some wiring.

Unless you already have a contactor built into your lighting system
you will need one, to protect your timing equipment from the surges created by HID lighting

You should be fine with a regular timer (block segment is fine, digital maybe a little easier to use) from any hardware store, you`re not running that much current through it so a proper contactor won`t be necessary.

Just bear in mind that digital timers rely on a constant electrical source (most do not have a back-up power source/battery). If you have a sudden surge or outage, the timer will have to be reset. I am fond of the timers that are rather difficult to set (mechanical types) as they are the hardest to reset or screw-up by mistake. Also unless you have multiple items that are to be controlled by a single timer, it seems that the strip-type timers are over-kill and take up too much space. The regular $4 timers have worked for me for many years with no problems; even controlling HID lights. You need to make sure that HID surges do not effect the timer. I have heard horror stories of grows ruined by faulty timers. I hope you have luck with your LED lights; please update us on its performance. My 2p.
