Anonymous Posts?

Is there anyway we could work out a system for anonymous posting?

Obviously there would have to be limitations on it. I've seen it on a few other boards and it really comes in handy for some situations.

Just an idea.

What uses are you insinuating about...?

If you can't say something about a member, topic or policies while hiding behind the anonymity of a user name or alt than you really shouldn't say it...

Anonymous posting removes accountability from the poster....

For posing illicit questions, and/or posting pictures(incriminati ng details). So only the thread maker could make it anonymous.

Not for talking shit/flaming. That's the last thing on my mind...

Unless you put your face up to the drugs holding your drivers license and take a picture I'm pretty sure you don't have to worry.

lol, anonymous postings generally just sheild the username from the forum. All the details are still logged, and are viewable to authorities.

I dunno dude. If someone irl rat's you out than they dig up on your computer that your posting under x, and the only proof they have is pictures of things you've done posted on here, or information you've posted on here, it could be the make or break point in whether you go to jail or not.

There's also some things that are legal to do, if you "don't" know your doing doing them, ya dig?

Srsly.

Pictures of drugs aren't illegal. Take terrys advice, don't take a photo ontop of your social security information and you'll be fine. I doubt authorities give two shits, unless you're involved in significant amounts, in which case, you'd probably deserve to be caught if you're taking photos of it.

Anonymous posting would be a helpful feature in G&S, but really has no place anywhere else on the board.

‘Rascal! Your name!’: Schopenhauer vs the Internet trolls - Telegraph Blogs

Quote:
I’m in no doubt that if we forced everyone who wanted to respond to a blog post or online article to use their real name, the Internet would be transformed. Overnight it would cease to be a cesspool of trollery and abuse, and would flourish instead as a veritable 18th century coffee house of “scientific education, literary and philosophical speculation, commercial innovation and political fermentation”.
But it turns out I’m a couple of hundred years behind the curve. Karen Van Godtsenhoven - a reader of my blog - has just pointed me to a passage she discovered while reading Schopenhauer’s ‘ The Art Of Literature‘. In it, Arthur S. discusses the evils of anonymity.
Fortunately, as Schopenhauer died in 1860 (and the translator, T. Bailey Saunders, followed him in 1928) I’m free to quote liberally from the text here. I think you’ll agree that, flowery language aside, the words could very easily have been written about today’s Internet trolls.
Schopenhauer writes…
“But, above all, anonymity, that shield of all literary rascality, would have to disappear. It was introduced under the pretext of protecting the honest critic, who warned the public, against the resentment of the author and his friends. But where there is one case of this sort, there will be a hundred where it merely serves to take all responsibility from the man who cannot stand by what he has said, or possibly to conceal the shame of one who has been cowardly and base enough to recommend a book to the public for the purpose of putting money into his own pocket. Often enough it is only a cloak for covering the obscurity, incompetence and insignificance of the critic. It is incredible what impudence these fellows will show, and what literary trickery they will venture to commit, as soon as they know they are safe under the shadow of anonymity.

i think it could be useful. there was a guy that posted here recently asking about drug testing. He ended up passing his drug test but was rejected after being hired for posting about how he fooled the drug test on his livejournal or something. that could possibly happen here, could it not?

it would take A LOT of searching to connect a real life name with one's yahooka name. And if they are doing that much searching, I'm sure they could just go the IP route and find it anyways

Maybe only for the drug testing forum, and guidance forum. Maybe the grow forum? Where only the original poster could be anon. Should we make a poll or something?

I don't know how to explain this any clearer, but; you are not going to be anonymous to anyone important unless you're using a proxy IP, or some sort of Tor network.

Getting mods to censor your username is fine for asking for information on that spot on your dick that just wont go away in G&S, but if you're posting X information in OH/grow forums, you're still posting from the IP that your regular username is logged as. Comprende?

Ergo, if you want to be anonymous online, it's upto you not the forum you post on.
