Sput, Puffman, Rev, and a few others I'm sure have said all there really is to be said on this issue. I joined Yahooka back in 04 because I was banned from another forum that was debating these very issues. They locked down the General Disussion part of the forum, banned everyone who wasnt on board, and the site got gay. Back in 03/04 and even more before that I'm sure, Yahooka really was the Wild West of the internet. This place was fucking nuts and it ruled.

Things have changed though over the years and while a lot of people have been banned/left and the riff raff has been cut down a bit by the administrators, Yahooka still has that wild west attitude that makes it a unique place on the ineternet. I've said it before, getting rid of FFA will send this site in the toilet. There are hundreds of bigger and better forums out there and dozens of other weed forums. The competitive advantage of this place is that hard nose attitiude and ability for the most part, to get awat with posting things that would get you banned in 2 seconds flat anywhere else.

The big conflict here is that the people who run this site dont want Yahooka to be a place that caters to the pariahs of the internet. They dont want this to be a place where people come to post becuse they can get away with more here than anywehere else. Thats their perogative and the rest of us might all be shit out of luck. Personally, I dont think this place could ever have over 1000 active posters. Message boards get that big because they either offer something that is hard to replicate or they are associated with a product that gets a lot of attention. Trying to make this place a big biscussion board with no competitve advantage is not going to happen.

I just hope that this thread is given the consideration it deserves when the decision to shut down FFA is made. Either way, I'll likly be staying if for nothing other than the A&P disucssion (and for front row seats to the likly demise of the whole site if FFA is disbanded as I suspect it will be).

Yahooka should be what it is and has been forever, Equal parts seriousness, and looseness, the grow forums, a&p, inquiring minds, and mellow stoners(should be combined with general discussion), OH for the serious, and then ffa, music, and the rest as the rowdy wild west.. It is what brought me here and makes me come back... Moderate the serious forums heavy, but if a member is banned in a particular forum, keep it forum specific, no need to throw good members out the door for calling someone out and not realizing it is not ffa(this happens more often than naugh because of the new post option)...

Wild West is too much of a primitive term to use to such a ...'diverse' forum. I enjoy the distinct diversities this website has. Kinda balances the website out anyway between respected members and the FFA guys. I like it the way it is.

Let FFA go nuts, no rules no nothing. Maybe lighten up a bit in a few other sub forums. But I don't mind having rules and restricted conversation outside of FFA. It's just not as fun

i would like to see it be both. I think Yahookas "personality" or charm is based almost intirely on its memembers and they should have the freedom to make serious posts or totally nonsensical posts if they so choose. At the same time nobody should feel scared to post do to troll gang rape and non stop flaming.

sometimes i think it pretty funny how much credit IRC get for being the alqaeda trainingcamp for yhknHavoK.

otherwise, it's just pretty dumb & ultimately self-centered, as if some semi/large/random/inebriated group of people really talk shit about all of you "victims" all day?

I had an excellent conversation with geeno the other day about when MTV broke form and had a run of good cartoons like Daria and Clone high.

i would say it should be like 95% wild west but somewhat respectable too....
we want peopel to be able to talk freely and there should be no rule aginst dissing other people if they say something stupid.... but over the top rascist remarks and or hate speech and or other flaming inciteful stuff where like one member starts following another around and taunting them should still be banable offenses...

my 2 cents

I think the reason why most yahookans stick around (at least why I do) is for the shenanigans (for lack of a better word). There is a reason such a huge portion of the sites threads/posts are contained in FFA. In your head think about all the great posters in the history of Yahooka - they are more than likely mostly (if not all) "FFA dwellers".

It has been said more than a few times lately, but the members of a forum ARE the forum. Anybody can install vbulletin software on a server, but for a forum to be interesting (as yahooka sometimes is/used to be) you need quality members. If you get rid of FFA and it's posters, all you are going to be left with is a bunch of n00bs posting like 10 posts (probably crappy ones, since they don't have any incentive to build a reputation) and then moving on. Look at Inquiring Minds for proof.

There is no need for change here. This forum has always had a life of it's own, and I think we ought to just let it keep being Yahooka, and not a grasscity clone.
Best opinion I've heard so far.

respectable forum as a whole, but leave ffa alone. dont let guests view it, no noobs post in it, and be lax on what goes on in there.

I think Free For All, is a good idea if you don't have people who constantly in every thread that someone they don't like posts in say shit about them, and just clog up the threads with it. Also I think photoshoping in a negative way shouldn't be allowed.

I just don't understand why people would do those things in the first place.
