It's one thing when its misdemeanor small amount charge. It's totally different with a grow setup. You're exposing yourself to major consequences. Thats fine if your young, living alone, and you're not responsible for other people - thats not everyone though. And if you think that being extra careful is good enough to not have to worry, you're lying to yourself.
Bottom line: Is it worth the consequences? The answer is different for everyone.

maybe re-examine these seemlingly "set of freak circumstances" and see where you went wrong. Hate to break it to you, but chances are you fucked up, and the circumstances weren't so freak.

you hear a lot about the fear, a lot about laziness
in my experience people dont grow through ignorance
ignorance of the improvement in lifestyle financially, (and no, I don't sell, I've just stopped buying)
ignorance of the emotional stability a constant supply of pot can bring to (most) addicts
ignorance of how to make a grow fit into their existing lives
deciding to become a criminal and grow my own was the second smartest thing I've ever done

So Dubstyle's an idiot for advising people to not commit a FELONY if they have children.
Hmmmmm.

I just can't take any chances with growing at the moment because of probation and shit like that.

That and because part of the probation was for growing anyway. Not worth the risk of prison for me.

I have grown when i was renting a house through the family as it meant no inspections.
It was really cool having a supply of decent free weed and choosing strains was also brilliant but it was a lot of risk, you could smell weed everywhere in the house and even outside the front door on some days.
I also had a policewoman walk up the stairs and right passed the room with my grow in at once point (luckily before they were flowering) but shit, that could have ruined my life.
Now im in a rented apartment i get inspections quarterly, although i could just about sneak a grow in between each one the smell would be pretty blatant to our neighbours and we are right in the town center so it would catch on pretty quickly.
To be fair to everyone who dosn't grow, it is a lot of hassle and although you do get weed cheaper, there is definitely a cost.
Paranoia, effort, startup costs, risk.
Buying weed insures that you will get good weed when you want it without any of the above risks, all for a one off small sum of money.
