Need to vent
So I go to check my final grades today, only to see I got an F in Public Law. This wasn't a huge shock, but I thought I was going to pass. It turns out I failed by 0.85%, not even a whole percentage point. To top it all off, the class average was 55%, meaning a large chunk of the class probably failed as well. This fucking sucks, it was a full year course (Sept-May). I will probably have to take an additional semester because of this, not to mention my GPA.
What an asshole prof. ![]() Last edited by Puffman : 05-09-2008 at 09:10 AM. |

This guy is just a massive douchebag, and I guess sees no problem with half the class failing. |

Some teachers just hate on certain students like that. I took a course a couple years ago where I needed to get 80% and because the bitch had a bone to pick with me at the end of the year she cut me off by 2%.

in class the people who make friends with the professors all do well and get extra attention and the people who arent good with the professors dont exist. not to mention its totally up to the professor if he wants to "bump" up your grade for the "effort".

my friend failed physiology by 0.5% and it was a full year course (which means the F counts double). he fucked up the first "final" in december and managed to pull his mark out of the absolute basement to barely failing by studying ridiculous amounts.
so brutal i never failed a course before but i have had to withdraw from one course. also i have a few c+s i'm not proud about. luckily in most of my courses no matter what class average is, it ends up as a b+. i passed a physics course with a c+ when i did not achieve any marks higher than 30% on exams i did pretty well this year. i saved my crappy winter semester with an A- in the hardest course i have ever taken (advanced organic chem II)

^ yea my experience is that failing is really hard unless you never go to class and dont take the tests.
in the really hard science classes like orgo, physics, and some advanced bio courses the averages on tests are like 30%, which is just above guessing. so if its a class that doesnt have attendance or homework grades you can basically get a C by never going to class and just guessing on the tests. although sometimes even getting a 30 percent is pretty hard :P the only courses i failed is when i stopped going to class a quarter of the way in the semester and i got an incomplete. someone told me that incompletes get replaced when you retake the class so i never withdrew, and i got 2 Fs in 4 credit classes. i retook the classes and got C+ and B except the F's didnt get replaced. I tried to retroactively get the Fs removed using the excuse that i had a severe anxiety and depression attack (which i did at the time and i had documentation to prove it) but they are such hard asses and they say the only way you can retroactively withdraw is if you are in a car accident or a family member died. so now my gpa is a 2.3 when it should really be at least a 3 if not for those failures. and everyone thinks im a dumbass and getting any sort of internship is going to be a pain in the ass because they look at your transcript

^^ ugh @ 8:00 am classes.
^ my tests are usually always multiple choice, and when i say i guess, i mean i take educated guesses, which are usually good enough. i know the feeling though in the harder science classes, where you work your ass off for a C or a C+. im prolly gonna get a C in physics even though i know the material better than most people, in extra help people come up to me when they need something explained. however my attendance grade fucking blows and everyone else never misses a class, and i got fucked over on some stupid bullshit.

booya
I, and seemingly at least a few others, appealed the grade to the dean, and it would seem they decided to apply the curve to the grading scheme. My mark was bumped up to a C.

mechatronics I, i did poorly on the first few tests and i handed in one of the projects like 40 minutes late which the prof said she would refuse to mark (really strict on lateness, and overall really strict and picky), and i even added up all my marks and shit to see what final exam mark i need to pass, and it turned out that i would fail by like 2 percent even if i got a hundred on the exam. i studied my ass off anyway, like 12 hours before the exam a copy of last years exam made its way to me, studied more. im pretty sure i got a hundred on the exam or very close. long story short the prof gave me the lowest possible passing mark, i guess she factored in that late assignment for the extra 2 percent or some shit.
to this day i have not failed a course in college or highschool, ever.

Yeah he was.
I'm just saying, Grades aren't everything. So what you get an F or a C who cares you fail some things and you do better at others. Eventually you're going to become whatever you put into life.. Fight club - You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your fucking khakis. You're the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world.. it's just school man. |

I failed Pre-Calc the first time I took it in high school. I think I have an incomplete, and one D- in college, and I can complete that incomplete whenever I feel moved to write twenty or thirty pages of fiction.
