Shocking but yet not totally unexpected. I have very fond memories listening to his records in the 70's when I wasn't supposed to - I was fortunate enough to see one of his shows in the late 80's and he was great live.

I thought he got angrier as he got older, and his humor was no longer funny to me, especially after his wife passed away several years ago. It was interesting to me that in his last HBO special he seemed to have mellowed quite a bit and had gotten his "funny" back instead of just raging on stage.

Ah well, life moves on. Big bummer though.

Not even a little bit surprised. You could tell in his last HBO special that he knew the end was near. I remember there being a lot of morbid comments where he would refer to himself in the past tense as if he had already passed - as id he knew this was the last time he'd be doing a special. I think i probably even commented in irc about that.

Wow, he was my favorite comedian. I liked him ever since 5th grade. I read his book "napalm and silly puddy" in 6th grade.

I am really saddend.

A lot of people don't know good comedy these days. Carlos Mencia and Dane cook are not good comedy. They suck
