I must say, I don't mind them that much. I work with a kid who is really into shoes, mainly Nike's and constantly people come in with the ugliest fucking shoes I've ever seen and he talks about how great they are. Those shoes you want look leagues above what he says is nice. The latest ugly ones are apparently nicknamed "the dope dealers" and are something ridiculous like $200.
