if you cant think of anything but stews, your an uncreative guy...thats what the fucking internet is for....

and 7 hours is about how long normal people are at work, so if your just sitting around waiting for it...your just weird...

DAMN RIGHT!!!!! surprised someone else posted this. anytime i describe it to anyone they look at me funny. whoever came up with the original recipe OBVIOUSLY partied on new years eve. simplest hearty holiday meal you could make on a rough morning, dump pork in sauerkraut and turn the shit on. oh yeah and add a little brown sugar if ya wanna get fancy.

are you from the dutchland lazy?

good call on the pulled pork turm. only debate is whether a butt or shoulder is the better sourcemeat.
I try to tell myself it just comes in meat form, not from an animal, otherwise...barf...b arf smiley not working for me.

okay heres a recipe...

pork roast

Brown it in frying pan on both sides.
put in pot with 1 cup of apple juice.
sprinkle tble spoon of quick cooking tapioca over top.
then add 1 cup of dried cranberries.

our house recipe calls for a can of coke as the liquid.

we've also used everything from dark ales to hard cider to ginger beer. in the end the flavor is all about the sauce.

gotta make it memphis style too.. coleslaw goes on the sandwich, not the plate.

Crockpots are the shit, you can make anything. I regularly cook big roasts then just eat off them for 2 or 3 days at a time. You can save a shit ton of money on groceries.

Lamb shanks for the win.

I tend to seldom follow specific recipes but instead follow a few basic intuitive paths when putting together a stock pot of what have you to create a fusion. Ussually this works well....on the odd ocassion one gets a bit too creative. But I find if you understand the basic chemistry of cooking you can learn to know what fits together without consulting a manual.

Whether pork, lamb, beef, or chicken...or even....Mussel chowder with....salmon to enhance? Prawns? ,,,chowder....mmm

A good base for beef, or chicken can be tinned tomatoes....garlic.. ..salt/pepper...basil, thyme, parsley...vegtables like peppers, onions...carrots etc..other herbs....maybe even some pasta...or not...tweaked at the end for flavour. I find too that a ussually a few hours is plenty enough cook time if wanting quick food - though a long cook on low heat is best for tenderness.

I made some Thai soup a month back which was like the best soup I ever made or tasted in my life...and 'made up' virtually. Diced pork, Tom kum lee stock...lime zest...lemon grass, chilli, garlic, ginger, pepper, salt, carrots, onion, soy sauce and other bits and pieces. Delectable.

Wholesome cooking cannot be beat not to mention ever so cheap.

The longer the stew.. the more of whatever comes out into the water.. to give it amazing taste.. or dosage. It's great for getting the last bit of goodness.. particularly from leftovers.. and it is a sure prized possession for the home chemist.
