If you need to yell to get your point across than you need think about who you are really trying to convince...
Yelling to me serves the same purpose as throwing blows, it is a last resort if my well-being is threatened...Not really an everyday tactic in conflict resolution though...

i'm curious to see what you guys think because a good friend of mine seems to always win arguements despite the fact he never makes any valid points. i never thought bigfoot was real but when a 6'3 dude is in your face screaming that he is, you tend to believe it.

it depends... sometimes people just give in because the yeller is making a scene or being an asshole, or people just don't want shit to escalate by yelling back... would you define that as winning an argument?
I'd say it just makes the yelling person look mentally inferior, with little self control; unable to think fast enough to come up with a comment that has just as much, if not more, strength being said using his "inside voice"
Sometimes its easy to get caught up in the situation and we turn to our natural instincts, but it shows greater judgment and intelligence to remain calm.

yeah, If someone is yelling at me I just relax and talk to them in a normal voice.. and like dudeman says it makes them look like a tool.
if it escalates or they say something out of line... then it's at least time to raise the voice..
