Driven to distraction....
A letter to the Editor from the Denver Post. A very tongue in cheek point of view about cellphones and how they can distract people.
'I’ve always been a common-sense sort of guy. You know, live and let live and all that. I tend to resist government intrusion into my life — stuff like seat-belt laws or talking on my cellphone while driving.
Until now. Until the unthinkable happened to me. Yep, I was broadsided. The lady who hit me was engrossed in conversation, oblivious to the traffic around her. Then, wham, she hit me! Luckily, while neither of us was hurt, we both learned a valuable lesson: Don’t use your cellphone while driving!
The accident happened at King Soopers, right there at the end of aisle five. The lady was steering with one hand while the other held her phone to her head. She never saw me until her cart smashed into mine! It was a powerful crash — knocked over my orange juice and everything!
Well, an important lesson learned, and one worth sharing: cellphones and driving don’t mix. I still don’t think I need the government to tell me that. Personal experience and common sense should be enough.'
