@scott: red seal certification is a world away from culinary school. culinary school means you understand nutrition and know how to bake a cake, cook a chicken breast etc.
red seal means that you are guaranteed placement in "upper class" (fine dining) restaurants, you WILL earn a salary, and that you know how to do literally anything and everything perfectly. and replicate it 300 times for dinner service.

red seal is an examination, not a course. I believe there is some sort of course you can take before hand but it's pretty unnecessary considering the minimum 5100 apprenticeship hours you need to even apply for the exam.
I'm just pointing out that you're wasting your time in university. trades are where da money is at anyways, plus... look at your country. gl with that whole bounce back on the economy homie.

I tend to think of my degree as a safety net; something that will put me on the top of the pile of resume's if my life crumbles and I need to find ANY job. I know a guy who lost out on an accounting job to a woman with an English degree (he had an accounting certificate) so I think degrees aren't without their leverage.
Also as I have a genuine interest in my program compared to most who take it (psychology), I can see myself going for my masters in the future and pursuing my schooling further after I've lived a little.
I imagine waves feels the same way about his degree; if he has a genuine interest in what he's getting a degree in, I don't think he'll have much to worry about, hyper.

actually if i were to become a chef i would be making a ridiculous amount of money for basically telling people what to do. executive chefs do little to nothing, unless they don't have a sous chef.
in any case I love cooking, What are you going to uni for waves? the arts?
