strain ideas anyone?
hey all,
its been a while since my last thread... i kinda just lurk around in here occasionally and make a couple posts and check everything out. but i digress... what im looking for is some input. ive been looking into acquiring some seeds for next years outdoor grow and potentially some indoor. basically, i want some good, potent, resilient strain, that should be ready no later than the 2nd week of October preferably. I am a HUGE fan or sour diesel and am really looking forward to it, but idk about it outdoors up north here. and i know some people around here use northern lights crosses and have great luck with them. also, a strain that is good to breed would be a good idea, cuz i would fancy giving it another go outdoors... i crossed a couple strains last year and the new generation is coming out well this year. but i want to mix it up next time and hopefully bring in more potency to the strain that is already locally acclimated. the cross i am currently working with has half apollo 11 genetics and half of a local unknown strain. thanks to anyone who cares to read. |

I'm not a grower but I'll try to help. Anything that has a pine taste to it. That's my favorite kind. Sour Diesel is great too. Maybe Trainwreck if you can get it.

Trainwreck in seed form is nearly impossible to get. There are a lucky few who have them, but it's definetly not a strain you can just go and get. And it's a Sativa anyways and would take a bit longer to finish.
I don't know about Sour D outdoors, but it is a longer flowering strain so it may not be best for you. Some fast finishers off the top of my head would be Sagarmatha's Stupersonic, HGF's Top 44, and Hindu & Master Kush as well. Then of course there are the obvious "early," "fast," and "quick" strains/hybrids. |

Early Pearl is a good one.
There is also an Early Kali, but i'm not sure where the Kali genes come from, but still, it would have some good genetics. I'd look into Rosetta Stone, it's very hardy, well suited to outdoors. I doubt Trainwreck would handle outdoors very well. Basically, no one can have it all. Do you want a good early finisher, or good genetics? Stay away from skunk if you can, there is so god damn much of it in everything. Grow something pretty. |

If you wish to try genetics for the indoor situation, any strain at all will grow well. Because of that, factors such as taste and potency and finishing times are more personal choices which you can only really make upon having observed various strains performing as opposed to going by seed bank claims. The exception indoors, is growing sativa strains some of which may just take too long to finish/ripen to make them practicle for the indoor enviornment. Sativa's also typically grow much taller than their Indica sisters so unless trained can be prohibitive in terms of an ideal strain.
Also some strains of indica which have very fat buds may be weak indoors if fungus issues related to high humidty levels present. Nothing worse than getting close to harvest and your nice fat cola's start to rot from the inside out. Outdoors - try as many strains as you can in your particular location. Perhaps use seedbanks descriptions and guidelines, but do not rely on what they say. If you grow many strains, you will see quite clearly which strains are best suited for your enviornment and your own personal wishs. Its the best place to start on yoru quest for selecting the best strain for you. Should you find one or two...cross them....breed your own strain for that environment. No question - some strains are just much more suited to certain conditions and outdoors this is very much the case. ![]()

im looking more for good genetics than early finisher.
in terms of finishing, i would say midddle october is what i have to work with. in terms of genetics. my priorities, in order of importance are 1.) vitality and resilience of growth 2.) potency 3.) stability and breedability 4.) looks/smell/taste (i prefer skunky and fruity varieties, Purple is always nice, but frosty nugs just make you fuckin choke, and for taste i hope i flush the miracle gro good and the molassas deal works good) sorry baked... stay with me here.... currently i have a couple different native strains, one of them i believe to be a full blown sativa that is well acclimated. the other is allegedly "twilight" but ive never heard of it and also some Apollo 11 that i know is legit cuz its my 2nd year with it so if anyone would get real creative, tips for a strain to breed with what i got would be killer. cuz thats really what im looking to get into. I'm mostly into outdoor growing, but have experience with some indoor as well. |
