Have any of you kids seen my gun?

I saw this on the news and thought of posting it here. If anything we will all have a good laugh.

Police search for missing gun at KCI

Police guard the King Street entrance at the north end of Kitchener Collegiate Institute as students walk by.

KITCHENER

Kitchener Collegiate Institute was locked down this afternoon as Waterloo regional police searched for an officer's stolen knapsack, containing his gun and other weapons.

"From a community safety perspective, it is crucial to locate that bag, and have it returned to us," said Insp. Bryan Larkin.

It all started around noon-hour when plainclothes officers were doing street-level investigations at 812 King St., across the street from the high school.

One of the officers noticed activity at the nearby high school. Two officers crossed the street to check it out.

One officer left his duffel bag, containing his service revolver, handcuffs, pepper spray, baton and police radio, on the ground.

Larkin estimates the bag was left unattended for just 20 seconds, before the officer realized he left it behind.

But when he returned to get it, it was gone.

The bag is described as being blue and black, with orange lettering that reads Running Room.

The officer was allowed to carry his gun and equipment in a bag because he was in plain clothes.

Police locked down the high school because they figure it's a good place to start searching for the knapsack.

If it's not found there, the search will widen.

Hunt for backpack continues

KITCHENER (May 28, 2007)

The search continues for a missing backpack and the officer's gun contained in it, but police say they're following leads and have identified some people of interest.

Waterloo regional police have been looking for the semi-automatic handgun since it went missing Thursday across the street from KCI.

An undercover officer left his knapsack unattended shortly after noon hour when he and another officer crossed the street to investigate some street-level drug dealing at the school.

When they returned, the knapsack was gone as were its contents -- a gun, 45 rounds of ammunition, handcuffs, baton, pepper spray, notebook and police radio.

"We have several active leads and we do have persons of interest we're following up on," Insp. Bryan Larkin said yesterday.

He said the investigative team is working around the clock to retrieve the stolen equipment.

The bag is dark blue with black trim and orange lettering that reads Running Room.

Anyone who finds the bag is asked to call police immediately.

A comprehensive review has been launched, but it's too early to say whether the incident will result in policy changes.

Larkin said it's premature to comment on whether the officer will be disciplined.

He remains on active duty and has been given another gun.

haha I would not want to be that cop right now. I mean he could get into so much trouble, not to mention he looks like an idiot for leaving his gun unatended.

Guns don't kill people, cops who *lose* their guns which are then used in violent crimes, kill people.

There's one discrepancy I don't quite understand. The initial article cites the missing firearm as a 'service revolver', while the second states the missing firearm is a 'semi-automatic handgun'.

Forty-five rounds to investigate some street-level drug dealing at a school is either a typical semi-auto loadout or a panicked amount of speedloaders for the revolver.

they gave him another!

Some people say only cops should have guns, but why should they when the cant hold onto their guns....

I'm suprised they didn't make some statement about a shoulder thing that goes up ar a 45mm pistol.
