Working in a head shop

I notice that a local head shop has a "help wanted" sign in the front window.

I'd like to know from those who work in head shops, what stories do they have. You can either PM me, or post them here.

I've always wanted to. And there's one I frequent quite a bit that I think if I ever leave this job, I might see if they'll hire me.

I've heard a few stories though, and you'll be dealing with kids that want to buy stuff they shouldn't. It's kind of like a convenience store clerk where you have to make sure you ID *everyone* that looks too young, or you don't. Most states send in minors to headshops to see if the clerks will sell them stuff.

Looks like a chill, poorly paying job to me. I've always wondered if they straight up ask you if you smoke weed or if they just take their best guess. Also, if there's drug testing? That'd be ironic.

Depends on if it's a "chain" or if it's a "family run" business. There is a chain in Phx called Trails where I'm pretty sure they ask, and they test. They also have a list of words you can't say in the shop.

Where as there is a place down the street from me, that's family run, meaning it's owned by a guy and his wife that they themselves look like hard core stoners, but damn they are good people. You could always drop some questions that appear honest, to gauge their reactions...

The guys at the headshop here are totally chill. They've sold me stuff before w/out id. It always smells like pot in there too...

Sounds like a good place to me. Though I'd be slightly sketchy about how often the Police visit there, and if they're coming for business or pleasure o.O

It's true Greeno, but like most CS jobs, you learn to deal with it, and learn ways to move them out of the store without knowing you're doing it expressly that. Takes the right kind of personality I think. Though you'd probably get some good stuff working there. The place I go, custom blows/tattoo's Bongs, and I'd love to work there, just to get some of the best pieces.

Its a two outlet business here in Northern Alberta. So, do you figure it is behind the desk, and receiving shipments of whatever is on sale.

Working in a head shop has always been a dream of mine, well actually, owning a head shop is the dream. You prolly get paid dick, but it'd be a give and take sort of deal. You give in to the lesser money, but you don't care about the money because it's something you enjoy.

As Geeno says, you'll meet some dirty fuckers, however, location is relative. One head shop that I used to frequent all the time was in the middle of the ghetto. Some strange characters in that place. But in the one I now go to that's close to my home, all I see is higher class stoners in there.

Working in a med club/dispensary would be another can't miss job.

True. I wouldn't work in *any* headshops near the college here. But out on the edge, where the more adult oriented crowd is, I'd absolutely love it.

Way to many weird people hang out there. I've hit the bar scene there, and some of those kids worry me. Also, it's a haven for bums and shit, since there's a ton of college kids there's a ton of beggars and scummy people.

i remember going to my first headshop when I turned 18 and bought my bowl.
triple blown thick glass bowl droped it many times till one day it broke. which was like 2 weeks ago.

i often wonder how much money headshops really make... my local one keeps its damn door locked most of the time and if he happens to see you , hell let ya in...
