Live Earth... What your thoughts?
So whats your thoughts on Live Earth?
I think its very commerical, and 90% of the music sucks, But in the same turn it shines an extremely bright light on a very important cause. And I guess the only way to raise so much awareness is to have it commerical!

I saw Roger Waters, which was great, and Metallica, which was also great, but all those Live 8/Earth/Aid shows piss me off.
The performers all use private jets and the lighting for the concert could power all of NYC for a day and a half. They preach vegetarianism and they sell meat and meat by-products at concessions. They advertised the music more than the message. 74,000 tons of gas emissions! (just the actual concerts, not including the concessions and all the manufacturing leading up to it) 110,000 trees would be needed to planted to offset that carbon footprint! All in all, its a good idea, just executed poorly. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...701201_pf.html

^^^^ I should read before I post...
![]() A huge acoustic set in a field would have been a bit more appropriate. How much shit got spewed into the air from the power plants that supplied all that electricity for those shows? Edit: Not to mention trucks to haul it, cars driven to the venues, how about the publicity? Bleaching trees that were cut down for the flyers, how about some exploited youth in a sweatshop cranking out concert tees, or the fucking mess that a single concert puts into a landfill? Global all right, global mess in the name of 'cleaning up' the planet. Bet the corporations who put up the money for all that shit made a huge pile of cash though.

I liked the short films they played, I thought they were well put together. But other than that the most interesting performer at that concert was Al Gore.

A lot of people made a lot of money on 07/07/07. That's the beautiful thing, the only way to achieve a concert on that level, to gain the participation of that amount of talent, is to attach some chairty bullshit.

you guys do realize that the whole concert was solar powered and the stages made entirely out of recycled material. Also certain types of large vehicles were not permitted entry into the venues. It was thought out...

Alot of the band ride bio-diesel busses. I only heard one band say anything about vegan stuff.
