went to the fair

went to the fair yesterday with some friends and my almost six year old buddy, rode on as many rides as possible and saw a great Super Dogs show, had a pretty good time.

two things were kindof a bummer, 1. there was almost NO agricultural stuff like there used to be, the horse auctions and cow beauty contests and giant vegetables of years gone by are pretty much over, replaced with a petting zoo and a few dairy cows for a milking demonstration 3 times a day.
no blue ribbons for trick riding or sheep shearing anymore, so it was kindof sad on that account and

2. the friends i was with were total cheapskates which kinda took a littl fun out of going because they were constantly exclaiming how expensive everything was, like " OMG 4 dollars for a corn dog? can you believe that?" and " i wish i had a cup of coffee, but im not paying $20 for this fair coffee" and it just went on and on.
so i said, "this is the fair, you knew what it was before we came, dont act all shocked about the price of corn dogs!" but my logic had no effect on them, they just couldnt let go of that attitude, even going so far as to walk all over the fairgrounds searching for a cup of cocoa for less than $1.50 and i was like "i'll buy you the cocoa if you are short on cash" but apparently it was not the cash that was the issue it was crazy thinking that was the problem.

i just dont understand the attitude, why go at all if you think its just a big ripoff? why bother if you are determined not to have a good time?

anyway me and my little buddy had a good time, we immediately got our hands stamped to go on as many rides as possible: scrambled eggs, flying elephants, swinging ship (made us both feel a little barfy) the mining coaster and the tilt-a-whirl were just the beginning, i cant remember all the rides we went on, but our favorites were the giant slide and the merry-go-round and we managed to get our favorite horses every time.

all in all a great day at the fair

oh i forgot, when everybody else was in the petting zoo i went to the potty and on the way back i went into the "mushroom mania" room that was closed off with thick plastic curtains and had special temperature and humidity control so it was deliciously cool in there. so when i went in there was nobody in there so i was alone with all these different kind of mushrooms, oyster, lobster, chicken-of-the-woods, portabella and all these weird ones, and lots and lots of shitake growing out the ends of long plastic sausages. no magic ones tho.
anyway i was all alone in there so i did what i thought anyone woud do, i nibbled on as many little samples as i though i could get away with before anyone came in, and they were all delicious!

That sounds like an awesome time, I freakin' LOVE the fair. My boyfriend does the same thing your friend does though, he's such a Debbie Downer. Only his trip is not about the prices, he's much more affected by the large volumes of loud, tacky white trash roaming around. I personally don't think the fair would feel right if you didn't encounter the typical dried up old lady dressed like a whore, cackling drunkenly while stuffing a turkey leg down her throat. It adds to the charm. My guy is great though because he goes with me even though he hates it just because he doesn't trust all the crazies and wants to be there with me to make sure I'm safe. Last year, I even caught him smiling and having a kickass time, so I think it's growing on him. I think the state fair is coming to my town soon, and I'm gonna be all over that bitch. I can't wait!!

I went to the state fair. It was great, theres definitely a lot of free stuff if you just take the time to look.

Used to be free milk, but now you get a big cup for 25 cents. Yeah prices are high but like you said... its the fair!

I missed the native americans, i really wanted to see them. I saw a great unicycler, and my friend boo'd him. The guy wanted everyone to go "woooo!" and my friend totally blasted a boo. He was great though. 10+ feet unicycle and juggled flaming clubs. He had decent jokes too.

Saw ridiculously hot girls, and i got a free gay pride pin.

We missed the county fair this year so i promised the kids to go to the state fair.

Should be coming up in the next couple of weeks.

The fair is the only place in the world that have prices that high. To my knowledge, it's the same now as it always has been.. You got to save a few bucks to go, because the fair is just another money making place.. If they didn't make good money, most of the vendors wouldn't take the time to travel and be there at every fair.. I know i wouldn't set up break down and set up again time after time with out it being worth my time.

Glad you and your almost 6 year old buddy had a good time though..

I try not tobe a downer. My youngest boys birthday falls during fair week. So it's always included as part of his celebration. I always overspend so my hubby TRIES to moniter me and the $$$ but he can't watch me ALL the time!! The boy wanted to win one of those crappy stuffed animals popping the balloons and he did - it cost 15 dollars. By the time the hubby got back we had said animal in hands and he's rolling his eyes at us. "How much did that cost?" O about 10 bucks, I said. He gets all freaky and I go on about how it's the FAIR - AND the boys birthday - he gets what he wants - end of discussion. We do this little song and dance every year! I've begun to view it as a challenge. If he only knew......
The hubby and I went to the state fair and seen the Alice Cooper show and we really didn't have the funds but I have had this planned for two months and I was determined to do SOMETHING this summer! I practically had to force myself to have a good time. Again - one of those things the hubby had no clue of. We just saw the show and came home - too old and broke for any of the rides. OK - I didn't really have to try THAT hard to have a good time at the show - it was Alice Cooper for crying out loud!! It was awesome!!! And it was totally worth being broke all week for it!!
