Yeah, but having more shots is a stronger advantage I'd say--if your first shots only wound, you can always step closer to deliver the coup de grace. And how many shots it takes to kill varies based on a lot of factors, there's big semi-autos and small revolvers.

As far as accuracy and power go, as Francis said obviously a rifle or shotgun would be better than any pistol, but they're awkward in tight spaces and don't fit in your drawers quite as snugly.

I guess the best solution is to have a large arsenal to draw from depending on the situation.
