?? About a Movie...

I've been seeing previews for the movie "The Strangers" with Liv Tyler.

It is supposedly based off of a true story. I've heard it was based off of the Keddie cabin murders and also the Manson murders.

On the website it says that Kristen McKay and James Hoyt were murdered in 2005, but I can't find ANYTHING about it on the net...

Have you heard anything about this? I am totally obsessed now

The Strangers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Inspired By and Based On are two different things.

Quote:
Inspiration
The movie is inspired by an event from the director's, Bryan Bertino, childhood, among other things. A stranger came to his home asking for someone. Later, he found out that empty homes in the neighborhood had been robbed. With that memory in mind, Bertino created this, his debut screenplay. The screenplay is also inspired by the events of the Charles Manson murders.

its all bullshit anyways

look at texas chainsaw massacre

tards swearin up and down the block that its for real

Its an incredibly hypothetical situation spawned from an event which did take place, but in the end of the day has absolutely nothing in common with the end movie.

Indeed, most "true" stories that are filmed are reinventing what's true anyway. IIRC Texas Chainsaw Massacre was supposed to be based on Ed Gein, which is utter BS.

Also, looks like crap anyway.

I believe TCM was based on things that Ed Gein did, not actually "Ed Gein".

skin and bone, furniture, masks, etc.

Did you know that technically, Manson never committed one single murder, yet he is denied parole every time it comes up.

Inspired by true events could mean he was in a cabin with some chick and a noise scared him.

Besides, "Blair Witch Project" was marketed as true.

I know this guy who still totally believes that Fargo was a completely true story, and he actually gets pissed when I tell him the Coens were just fucking with him.
