How can it be like this?
If the human race is going to survive or even expand, it should be quite obvious that we need to work together to get anywhere.
Isn't it quite clear that other than a little racism, other countries get along just fine?
I remember having chinese penpals in middle school and some of my classmates went to china for the summer, couldn't we not get any more hospitality from each other? Who is really making the decision to drop the bombs? Is it the citizens or the government? Can some one clear this up for me, I just don't understand, why would any one support huge wars without a good reason?
In my eyes, I see war as organized crime being carried out by people that are power hungry.

when the election was going on my friend kept going on how America would never chose a black president. overall I felt society at this point in time is pretty accepting towards everyone, at least the younger generations.
my dad still doesn't really care for African Americans or Muslims but he was raised that way and I don't think he'll ever change his mind with that, although not to say he hates them, more just carries a prejudice with both groups. anyways i think this whole racism/homophobia/etc etc stuff is dying out rather quickly now.

its the individual who straps a bomb to his chest and decides to murder 100 innocent people. theres too many extremists out there for us not to have war. no matter how peaceful we can try to be, there will always be a group of assholes to come piss on our parade.
Angry Iraqis demand protection from bombings

For real, we were all young and coming into our own at some point. It's good he even wants to ask I think. Some don't care.

I think in general the world is coming more democratized as a result of modern technology. In almost every country people have access to some American TV and many countries (even places like Iran, and to a limited extent, China) have access to the internet. What I expect to see is English standardizing as the universal language within 25 years or so. That's not to say other languages won't exist but I think by and large almost everyone will learn to speak English, there's just too much already on the we to overcome. Within about 50 years we'll have a good renewable enery source and will have levelled out our carbon emissions and reduced our energy needs. Probably around the same time the industrialized countries will begin to form one large alliance, prolly the G-60 or so by that point. It will have English as it's formal language and rather than exploiting smaller nations it will use it's prosperity to lift up the impoverished. Within 100 years or so there will be one large world government, with countries still existing, but being directed by the larger government kinda like states within the US now.
there wil however never be an end to terrorist attacks and they will probably gain even higher profile, as there won't be major wars.
This is all just a big guess,, and is dependant on the premise that we're able to find enough fresh water (the only truly valuable resource on the planet)
Now I know you're thinking "didn't Thoreau say 'That government governs best which governs least'"? And yes that's probably true. I think world governments will probably only interfere in our lives if it is expressly to stop us from doing harm to another individual.
Edit:the democratization process will probably lead to medium scale civil unrest in many countries with a tradition of Theocracy. For a good example of this read up on Bhutan and it's democratization, pretty surprising really.

i think the damaging effects of competition for all parties involved will continue to escalate until cooperation is pursued as the only practical choice for survival. most of us posting will live to see it.
peace is coming yall. we've had warring and suffering on this world our entire history, but the crucial difference about this time is the sheer scale involved. we have a world of countries that are more than connected by commerce, they are positively conjoined through it. no one country can sustain itself; we all need everybody and we're learning it the hard way, but at least we're waking up to it.

I just don't understand why any one would want to go into politics. I wish the founding fathers were here today to help me go on a mass murdering spree in washington DC.

I had a talk like this with my Step Dad this weekend, his answer was 'Power' don't underestimate how much people love it. We were talking about term limits. My thought was damn, if I could do one term and have life long insurance and penchant I certainly would take it and get out, not sit in there for 50 years. He said Power.
So this applies all over. Some people like alittle power in their lives, some people go with the flow and don't consider power, some people make meaning in their live's with it I suppose is what that answer meant to me. Pops is a hard core industrial economist, loves to power to make money and not pay too much for stuff. He's smart about having expendable income, dresses simply, has a nice RV and place to live, but has this crazy admiration for the engineering that has made people able to move around so freely and all the supporting material.
Point is he doesn't flash it at all though, looks down right poor some times But he isn't establishing authority with it, he isn't looking for power.
His simple answer blew me away the same way someone said at work once a few years ago...."Man there are some people that don't want world peace" Just caught me off gaurd as an answer.

Now, doesn't this completely fly in the face of your OP? Where's the peace in any of that?

well, technically then, there never was any peace... since the cavemen we have been fighting each other... we're animals, just more organized. It will never end, so don't get your hopes up, and if it does end, there will not be a human left to appreciate it.
