Legal Situation in Italy 2009

I read that the Italian governtment released 2006 a very tough law starting a "war on drugs" and even the green herbs. As far as I know one can be busted and jailed for years even for very very little amounts. Can somebody tell me what's the situation in Italy right now? Is there still a hounding and prosecuting of smokers?

with neo-con Berlusconi (Bush's friend) as their leader, it doesnt surprise me

the guy is a hypocrite. Has huge orgy-parties with call girls, but prohibits the use of ganja from the people
