Because of the inherent poor quality of inexpensive watches ($50-$100), I've been in and out of them for 5-6 years. I haven't had one for quite some time now.

I have a really tough time picking out my watches though. It seems like most people just find something they can afford and live with it; that's just not the case with me.

I'm very particular about the things I buy for a couple reasons. First, I want to know everything about it. I really don't care about descriptions of watches because I can see the thing in the picture in front of me. Whoever thought advertisements should contain a picture and description of the item is a fucking idiot. I want to know technical specifications like watch size and thickness, band adjustment sizes, face diameter, movement type, water resistance, etc.

Secondly, I want to get the watch I want. I often time find watches that I like at first, but find something I don't like about them. For example, I had a watch that I liked 90% of, it was a Timex expedition. It was nice, except the company fucking ruined the analog display with a little digital "chronograph" window in the bottom.


All I'm interested in having is:

-Fully Analog dial. No digital. If I wanted to read a sequence of numbers consecutively placed to represent some vague description of "time", I would have asked your sister.
-Water resistant to at least 100 ft
-Automatic Swiss quartz movement. I don't care if Japanese quartz movement is the same fucking quality. I want Swiss fucking movement.
-Date window-I'm usually not a big fan of the day (name) and date (number) and more partial for just the date window, but as long as it doesn't interrupt the natural flow of the watch face I don't care.
-Strap must be constituted of some form of weather, oil, and fire resistant material such as stainless steel or rubber. Leather, aluminum, and nylon are a no-go. Titanium is cool, too.
-Case and band finish isn't a really big deal but I'm not in the market for any colors or gold. I'm not partial to steel color, or black, but as long as it looks nice and doesn't stand out I'm down.
-I prefer a smaller watch, but as long as it's not 1/2" thick then I should be ok.
-The bezel should move, if it has one. Many watch companies offer a simulated rotating bezel, that don't actually rotate.
-My watch is also fucking rugged as hell.

-I want to literally orgasm every time I look at my watch.

I think my biggest restraint is money. My stepfather has the watch I want, It's a Tag Heuer and I've wanted it since he got it. It's a very basic and classic designed stainless steel analog watch with the date window at 3:00, with a beautiful royal blue face. The only problem is that it cost about $5000.

I firmly believe that if I spend $400-$500 on a watch, it won't fail me like others have before. The only thing stopping me is that I don't want to get an expensive watch that I won't absolutely love.

Anyways so I'm sorry to rant about watches and I'll be surprised if anyone reads all this, but it's been on my mind since my last watch broke for the third (and last) time.

Does anyone know of a store where I can find like i described? Everyone tells me to go online or go to Macy's or some other department store. My only problems are that I need to be able to see the watch in person before I'm going to drop half a grand on and i need to be able to find out information about it. The people who work at department stores are incompetent when it comes to watches, and can provide no further insight than what's on the box. It's actually surprising that they go as far as to open the box and read to me, however I CAN READ THE FUCKING BOX MYSELF YOU DUMB CUNT GO SELL SOME PERFUME.

Is anyone else out there? I feel like nobody can ever understand, or at least find peace with, my obsession with finding something I like.
